Anybody know what this might be? No stamps on it at all that I can find except for a serial number under the grip. Belonged to an in-law's ex, who is long gone. He liked to do re-enactments back in the 80's. Any guesstimate for value would be appreciated also.. I presume value is low.

Well, it's apparently a Remington 1858 replica.. with no maker marks or import marks. Apparently there were italian replicas that came in back in the 70's, this is maybe one?

New Pietta replicas are $300'ish, so the value of this is going to be really low I presume.

Probably not a mystery likely to be solved without proof stamping.

I've had a couple of Pietta Colt Navy replicas... they are great, until they aren't. They are smooth and accurate, but the brass frames can and eventually do bend if you shoot them a lot. Both of mine bit the dust after very regular usage with moderate loads of 2F.

The Remington design is considerably stronger with the solid top strap, so as long as the timing is still good, it should be fine to shoot for a long time.

I can't imagine it being worth more than a bill or two, unless it's some kind of unicorn.

Kit gun would make sense with my ex-in-law. Good thought. Rusty, but looks okay. Might just make it a wall hanger.

That really sounds like a kit gun to me. My neighbor has one he built from a kit. He is a real craftsman so it looks great, but no numbers to be found. Steel quality is unknown but it 100% works as a mantel piece.
