If you see a post from a Toller named Finn looking for a new hunting guide please ignore him. Yes I missed a bird on our last outing (first this year) and yes today's walk about was for excercise only -- I have promised him I will get him to better locations.
Last year in the snow we had this area basically to ourselves. This year with the mild weather as you see below, we hunted for 4 hours, did not put up a bird and ran into 15 other hunters out for a day of fresh air as well (heard no shots fired). Absolutely a great day for a walk about with my furry buddy.

Agree 100% To me the dogs work so hard I go out hoping they can find a fresh scent or two with a flush as a reward. Upland to me is all about the dog work. It is up to me to recognize good cover, the wind, angles of approach to make the dog successful for a flush. I certainly have to do a bit so there is a retrieve .

Tollers will most certainly give you "the look" and at times make you wonder if they wouldn't come on here looking for another guide LOL. I am sure Finn has recovered by now smile

Been owned by Tollers for ~30 years now. Son of my 7 year old turned 1 and this was his fist year. Don't demand or expect much first year except for obedience, just make sure the pup has fun and gets bird exposures. Think I will keep him as well though.

First bird to hand

Used a spruce grouse for some water practice, pup was maybe just a bit too exuberant. If there is such a thing

Dad is a pink nosed as well.

I see your guy wears an orange vest and at times mine do as well depending where I am hunting. That is one thing about running a dog that was bred to look like a red fox. Better to be safe than sorry when others may be around.

Best of luck to you and Finn and hope you are both doing well.

I missed more Birds in 30 seconds than you missed all year… I need a new shotgun. 😁

Got to go. Pheasant day starts in 12 minutes. Read the opening post for clarification.

Love your 'Bosses' and their look of strained toleration when you don't produce. Tell me is that fine looking Model 37 a 16ga?
