Yes I know this is like asking grape or Strawberry jelly on a biscuit and some will say scopes on a lever gun is just wrong but... What is the opinion of the fire on what is the perfect scope? And what about mounts? Should those weaver see through mou ts ever be used? Does anyone ever really use the iron sites by looking under the scope?

My favorite is a Leupold 2-7x33 mounted as low as possible. I use a Weaver base and Leupold rifleman lows or Burris Zee rings.
See through mounts get thrown in the trash immediately.
When I die I hope I don't start voting democrat.

Leupold 1.75-6x or 2-7x are small enough. VXR and VX3 are bright enough for most purposes. Hafta buy secondhand though.

Max power 2 1/2 in my opinion. But the only lever I have a scope on is a 256 WM. Lever rifles are really handy and quick pointing with out a scope. Putting a scope on a 30-30 - I would never do it.
I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally

I’m not a fan of scoping a lever but straight tube scopes look good on them. Anything else looks and is silly on a lever.

Thats the way I feel , I will put one on I like, sight it in and then say MEH. Got to be small, short, bright, maybe 2-3 power, thats it. Did I say small?

Weaver steel K3 is what I use on my BLR . On a Winchester or Marlin if I was gonna scope one I would probably use the same thing or a Burris RT6 or something of a similar size . Something compact .

Bushnell Dusk to Dawn 1.5-4.5 is cheapest, yet surprisingly good. I liked the leupold 1.5x5. and 2x7 also. Years ago sightron made a Compact 2x19 but no more. It really makes your 30-30 a 250yd rifle!

I just can’t bare to put a scope on a LA 30-30. Ruins the Nostalgia f me.
But if I just had to, it would be one of the older short Leupolds in 1.75 To 6 Power.

I'm still looking for the perfect scope for a 336. It doesn't exist... it is up to you. Don't over think it.

i have either leupold 1.5-5x20's or the same from nikon on most of mine. the best i ever had was a cheapo 4x32 bushnell sportview but it didn't do so well in wet weather. it had a huge 100% FOV when i put it to my shoulder though and was clear as a bell. didn't really like the looks of it either but functionally it was great in dry weather. i also have a winchester timber carbine in 450 that has the leupold scout setup. that is nice for close shots and doesn't blow the aesthetics of a lever gun too bad like a receiver mounted scope does.
My diploma is a DD214

I feel a 2-7x33 is perfect and it looks balanced. The 20mm makes it look back heavy visually. I think a 2.5x in Talley rings looks good on the 16” models.
I understand the feelings on scoping a levergun but I’ve come to realize underscoping and not wringing out its potential is where they get a bad rep for accuracy.
Yeah you can stretch the range out with a 2.5 in the open but it ain’t worth a crap for picking a shot through cover.
No reason a 30-30 ain’t a kill everything in North America at 250 yard gun.

The best lever scope? Not having one. I love optics don’t get me wrong. On levers I prefer irons. Ghost peep type for non movin* shots. Blade and notch for moving

Another vote for the Leupy 1.5-5, looks Ok on a levergun I think.......or go with a "scout" setup........my 63 year old eyes don't work too well with iron sights anymore, so if I want want to hunt with my levers, some kind of optic is necessary......
