30+ years ago I was on a job that got the very first 120ft JLG lift in Commyfornia.
9 Speads and set on High it would burn rubber on all 4 tires.
We had a Blast on it until one of the guys was thrown out of it.
We did not wear any safety gear in lifts back then.
The Gen Con Hired an AZZ Hat Local 12 Operating Engineer to operate the lift after that.
He set it on the slowest it would go because he was a typical Union Worker that was paid by the hour.
It was no more fun on that project at all.

Dumb asses doing what just described is why OSHA has the power they accumulated. Thanks a bunch.

It’s all in how you land though, right? Duck and roll?

Obey lawful commands. Video interactions. Hold bad cops accountable. Problem solved.

It seems like the younger people need to be held by the hand with every step they make.
Us older guys lived life on the edge at times and learned how to watch out for our selves.
I never needed OSHA to look after my Safety and I Never Needed MSHA as well.
I have done some crazy stuff in my life and survived but nothing like what some of my Co Workers have done and we all lived to tell the story's.

1st Rule of Life
Look after your own well being and Safety in all facets of your life.
2nd Rule of Life
Learn how to laugh about your self.

Drive by at least one of their factories every day.
The one has finished lifts to be tested.
Some of those thing go up 150 foot, or more.

No dam way.
I'd take welfare before I went up in that.
That would be the last job before working the glory hole in the truckstop.

I'd ride a tall lift before I worked a lathe without a bar feeder. Fuuuudge that.

I've been all the way up in an 80 footer and that was more than enough for me... but the machines that scare the heck out of me are the 80 foot scissor lifts. No way you could get me up in one of those- I've been in just about every other scissor lift and even the 60 footers made me want to crap my pants every time they moved.....

I would rather be in one of these than a scissor lift.
The scissor lift side sway at heights makes me very uncomfortable.

I once went up in a crane basket on a steep hill.
I had put my life in this particular Operator many many times .
as we were standing under the cribbed up crane to get out of the heat of the day. I asked him what were we doing on the tower.
He told me that we were installing more port holes into the 200 ft mono-pole. He then told me that they had modified the Jib Boom of the Crane (lengthen it) and that at ground level the weight capacity was (2) people and that we had to have (3) in the Basket.
This was a 175 ton hydraulic crane I am talking about.
The Operator told me that it took them 6 months to certify the Crane Safe for the project.
3 of us got in the basket with all the tool needed for the project. The Operator started lifting, The boom did nothing so we started jumping up and down in unison to get the boom started and nothing.
So 1 on the guys (not me) got out of the basket and as the Boom started going up he grabbed onto the Basket toe plate and off we went.
We were about 30 to 40 ft in the air before we got that guy up on the basket on the out side of the railing.
Back in the day you did what needed to be done to get the job done.
These were real working men and I feel very Privileged to have been working with them.
Same Crew on another project. (3) of us suspended under a platform hanging by Lanyards with full body harnesses torquing 3/4" , 7/8" & 1" A325 HS Bolts with no leverage. It took all 3 of us to pull and push the wrench to get the job done.
I was their Inspector and I was basically just part of the crew. A lot of the young workers for that Company just thought that i was another Co Worker. They did not know that I was my own Company Hired by the Owner.

Like I said
1st Life Rule Look Out For Your Self and your own Safety
2nd Life Rule lean to laugh at your self
Because when you are just about ready to crap your self because of the working conditions you are in at any particular time are getting to your head.
Laughing sometime brings you back into focus.
I have worked up high the majority of my life and it is real nice to have something under your feet wider than 6"s
The new kids these days are Sniveling Boobs and cry when they get a splinter in their finger.

Lol, I feel the same way. A few weeks ago they hired a crew to wash the water tower, we have one of the tallest around. They brought in a lift that went 185ft up! I about schit my pants just looking at them up there.

My boy works for a crane company and drives a 50 ton Grove crane around. today he went up a 200' tower crane and 200' out on the jib to hang fugging Christmas lights, No way I'd do it.

Grove's plant is about 60 miles east of here.

JLG=John L. Grove

But there is no connection, other than the founder.

Took some Koreans up in an 80 foot boom lift once. Got that sucker all the way up, straight vertical. Started making it sway some, and you should have seen all the white knuckles on that basket rail! A 180 footer would be fun to go up in.
