It comes off as sleight of hand/marketing wank to me too.

Talk with em on the phone and they will tell you "Best be a bit over that though" as noted.

Well, if the minimum speed for expansion is say 1800 but you should be 200 fps over that....to me the minimum speeds 2000. It *might* work below that but you're rolling a dice.

How dare a bullet company not make a bullet that will expand from 1000 fps to 3800 fps, stay intact, dig deep and exit while keeping its weight and integrity, not to mention be well balanced and accurate.

That’s interesting, the difference between the 150 and the 168 that is.

Based on what exactly?

I can’t answer for BWalker but my opinion is based on extensive, and I do mean extensive, experience with bullets other than Barnes.

P

Aren’t we concerned about extensive experience WITH Barnes bullets?

Based on having used them extensively since the original X came out. I've also shot them in wet and dry news print out to 600 yards.
In addition if you talk to someone at Barnes who is actually expiereanced in using them they will confirm that what I have said is spot on.

I was just having this conversation today with someone. I've shot a bunch of deer with the 120gr version in a 7mm-08 and my recommendation is to keep them above 2,200fps at impact. They kill just fine below that and will exit, but blood trails are small or non-existent. Not knocking them, because I still like the performance and I like 2 holes in my deer, just an observation from a sample of about 50.....

Just received this from Barnes last week...a little confusing?

Thank you for shooting Barnes Bullets. For the .308 150 gr TSX the minimum impact velocity for reliable expansion is 1800 fps. For the 150 TTSX, it is 2000 fps. The reason the 150 TTSX is higher is that bullet get shot a lot from the 300 magnums and so the muzzle velocity is higher, sometimes a lot, and thus the impact velocities are higher. Hope this helps.

Thank You

In the past, they've cautioned that minimum velocity numbers they've provided are based on testing into water, so take that into account.

I'm going to assume the LRX versions will expand at lower velocities than the TTSX's because they are designed for longer range.

Providing minimum impact velocities without bullet expansion measurements doesn’t really mean much. A company like Barnes, Swift, Hornady, etc., shoot thousands of rounds in test medium from high to low impact speeds and record actual bullet expansion measurements. Providing just impact velocity without expansion measurements is not particularly helpful in assessing what type of expansion to expect.

Yeah, like the LRX, reportedly a LR bullet, but requiring more speed to perform than a regular TTSX.

You'd think a LR bullet would be designed to open and perform at lower speeds.

I've been working with Hammer and CEB Raptors and like them both. They are also mono's and seem to be a bit more expansive than Barnes.

At 1800 or even 2000 expansion will be very minimal.

What I find most valuable is the difference in expansion velocities among the bullets. Good to know when picking between the 150 and 168 308” TTSX, for example.

Where did you see load data for a 300wsm using Hodgdon Superperformance powder ?
