I know that on an 5.56 if sighted at 10 yards you are in the ball park of being in at 200 (with hold over at 10). I am new the the 9mm platform and have a red dot on it and was wondering what is the "standard" sight in distance for a 9mm?
Thanks

I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

After seeing some very unimpressively shot at 100 yards, I'd sight them in for a good distance less. Probably 25.

Depends on usage, my plan is 30yds, that covers anything for me as a HD weapon.

Thanks I wish everyone would quit using silly tricks to sight their rifles in. Do ballistic research and sight in at the most probable range you will be shooting. There's no substitute.

Rockinbar I agree with sighting in at the distance you plan to shoot but if you read what I said, "you are in the ball park". I and everyone else should verify your zero at distance, but I have a shorter range than 200 yards I can shoot at. I can shoot to about 30 yards behind my house, so I get it close and then go to a range where I can verify zero at distance.
Now the 9mm will most likely never be shot at longer distance so I am trying to see what is consider "standard" for sighting it in.

For HD, whatever is the maximum distance inside your home. My longest straight-line is 60', hence my choice of 30yds

thanks for all the information from everyone. It makes sense to me to sight in at around 20-25 yard mark as that is about the longest line of sight in my house. According to the table Blue posted above, if I sighted in .7 high I should be in the ball park at 50, I can live with that. I will sight in .7 high and next range trip I can verify that I have a 50 yard zero

A 50-yard zero is my choice. It gives good hits at POA at shorter ranges, but still makes 100-yard shots easy.

A 20 yard zero should work out pretty flat to 100 yards. I ran a generic traj table using 124gr XTP at 1400 fps, with sight 1.75" above bore.

Personally, I'd move that zero out to 50 yards. Puts you 5 inches low at 100. A 20 yard zero should work out pretty flat to 100 yards. I ran a generic traj table using 124gr XTP at 1400 fps, with sight 1.75" above bore.
You didn't use logic or reason to get into this opinion, I cannot use logic or reason to get you out of it.

I shoot PCC's (9mm AR-15's) in IDPA, USPSA and Multigun. Most of the matches are in 50 yard bays and I sight my PCC's in at 50 yards. At close range (say 3-30 yards) you have to remember the offset or your hits will be low. This becomes second nature if you shoot a lot. If I'm shooting much further I want a .223/5.56.

When I ran the chart, my mind was thinking along the lines of a Ruger PC Carbine.

I shoot a PCC for comps and a 20yds zero is where it's at.
