Cutting out the logistic cost
Want waaay over retail price.
Buyer pays shipping and tax i bet.

28 bx for 9mm for am eagle.
Add in shipping and tax probably 32 33 a bx then.
15.99 to 17.99 retail like academy and rural king


Using their materials to produce the most cost efficient profit margin stuff.
And want the profit from logistics savings and make what scalpers make.

This is a you buy what makes them the most market. And the days of consumers having selection are dwindling.

It's capitalism but they are being weasely pricks.....

Betcha the extra profit is going into bonus payments to the glam types in federal.....

Glad I stocked up during the Trump years. In my early 60's..... I do think I have enough 9mm, 40 S&W, 45 ACP, 357 Sig, and 22 lr to last me.

If I was a local dealer I wouldn't appreciate the manufacturers doing this kind of thing. Kind of like nosler retailing their own bullets directly. Admittedly I've bought a lot of " over runs" from sps but if owned a retail shop I'd not stock nosler.

These businesses are trying to have it both ways wanting a loyal network of retailers while backdooring them with their own direct sales. I think they should either be direct to consumer or not. I would have really pissed off my distributor and retailer network if I would have tried to sell direct as well and undercut them.

Nosler goes full slimey by declaring many things over runs or seconds so they don't even hold to their own MAP pricing. Which as I said has benefited me but it's been years since I bought nosler in a local shop unless it's on clearance.

I buy a lot of Starline brass. Their prices have not gone up but the only brass I get is when it becomes available for back order..... Nice business model the production run is presold before it starts....

This gets rid of the last excuse for the procrastinators the next time there's a shortage. They don't even have to get off their lazy asses. Just go to the front door and sign for it.

Yes, but the great thing about capitalism is with their strategy of selling at 3x pre-pandemic prices Federal is greatly lowering the barrier to entry for new companies that don't have the economies of scale that Federal does. You start a new ammo company, get a few small sporting goods chains and mom&pop stores who are tired of ammo companies selling both wholesale and retail to sell and support your efforts, and one could make some money.

The stores that enable the ammo scalpers deserve to be bypassed in the supply chain, but a lot of stores are just trying to keep the doors open and don't deserve more competition from their suppliers.

I have been hoping to see some new start up companies that sell everything we need.

Federal has a "robust e-commerce capability?" I have visited their site no less than 2 dozen times an have never found anything I wanted in stock.

I understand that you sometimes get better deals from different outlets. However, quick check at Midway. At the moment, Midway has two available 9mm options and one available 45ACP that are slightly lower Total Delivered Cost versus what Federal is offering above. And the 45ACP option is limited to only three boxes per sale. Is the Federal offer above as cheap as what we used to pay in the "Good Old Days"? Nope. But, the "Good Old Days" are just that...

If I did not already have a comfortable stash, I would consider the Federal subscription offer... Locked in price + factory fresh + available...

Glad I didn't throw all my 9MM brass away when you could buy 9MM shipped to your door for about the same price as reloading it

A couple of weeks ago I bought 1000 FMJ 9mm projectiles for under 6 cents each delivered.

As a retailer, it pisses me off. I was told it was a decision by the Board of Directors.

Yeah. Way too expensive. They can be found cheaper than that.

I think that part of the price is that they guarantee availability. If things tighten up again, you'll still get your ammo. Then it might be considered "cheap".

A bit expensive but a guaranteed supply. Some people will like this setup, although I reload my ammo so it's not useful to me.
