If I’d had to pay for them, I’d really have felt bad.

Had shingles about 35yrs ago, I was about 34 at the time, miserable rash down my ribs and under my arm, ribs felt like they were broken. When the first shot came out I asked my doctor about it,and he told me it was expensive, and not covered by my insurence. I asked how much and he said $200. I laughed and told him is he ever got shingles he'd be throwing C notes at anybody that could help. When the new shots came out I got that also, and like others have said, the second shot was a kicker, but well worth it. You never want to get shingles.

Both of them cost me a good day’s work. At least I had the good sense to get the second one in the late afternoon and planned the day off.

Beats shingles by a long shot, plus I’m now so magnetic, I don’t need a holster for my EDC wink.

Here's my dilemma, about 3 weeks ago I got my first shingles shot, I had shingles about 12 years ago and don't want it again. My shoulder hurt and I felt punky for a day and a half, no big deal. About 3-4 days after the shot I started breaking out on my scalp, shoulders, and chest. Over the next few days it spread down my arms and back, eventually reaching my left foot, but not the right. The sores looked like chicken pox at first but as they spread they were much blotchier and very dense in some places.
I went to the Doc and he'd never seen anything like it, he put me on a week long course of an antiviral med just as a precaution, it didn't seem to help. So I went to the dermatologist, who also didn't know what it might be. He prescribed a steroidal creme, the lesions started to recede but it didn't really seem to me to be a result of the creme but of course I can't say for sure. The sores heve receded to only a few areas on my back, chest, and scalp. I'm still treating them with the steroid.
So the big question is do I get the second shot? Every doctor I've talked to says get the shot, it probably won't happen again, even though they don't know what it is, of course it may have nothing to do with the shot, it could be just another benefit of old age. The consensus seems to be that the risk of recurring shingles is worse than the risk of having another major breakout. I've got a few months to think about it.

Couple hundred at the grocery store pharmacy. Zero for me, just like flu or pneumonia shots, no copays.

Minor soreness after both shingles shots, a bit worse than any other shot but not unbearable. If you did have or just think you might have had chicken pox, you absolutely want to get shingles shots.

The second shot made me sick as dog for about 12 to 14 hours. I felt terrible and still had to go to work. But I do not regret getting the shot. My mother in law got shingles and it was terrible for her. After that I got the shot. Seeing is believing!

Same for me. I've never had any side effect from a vaccine except a sore arm sometimes.

My Shingrix booster went the same way - swollen red injection site on the arm, fatigue, no drive for a couple of days.
