Do the 777 specific primers have enough fire to ignite BH209 consistently?

I know they were supposedly designed with a little less heat for reducing the crud ring that 777 is said to create.

Right now all I have is the Winchester 777 primers and am wanting to work up a load with BH 209.

What say the resident experts?

No, they are the weakest primer you can buy.

BH web info used to specifically recommend against any primer but 209 shotgun. I’m thinking the breech plug sleeves that take a large rifle or large rifle magnum primer should be the bee’s knees. Tired of drilling out 209 crud from the flash channel.

Yesterday it was 3 shots max before I couldn't see through the flash hole in the breech plug.

I need to keep a torch tip cleaner with me.

I've had good results with Win 209 and CCI magnums with Blackhorn. Had a bunch of misfires using Remington and standard CCI 209 primers.

If you are shooting a CVA, the 209 breech plug actually helps a lot too, especially in cold weather.

I have the breech plug, just waiting to get some regular 209 primers and not the 777 primers I have.

Can't imagine any 209 NOT igniting BH209. Maybe I've been lucky.

I couldn't find 209s last year.... I did find a VariFlame large rifle primer breech plug. The sales pitch made sense.

I run CCI 250s... haven't had a failure yet. Knock on wood.

I believe 209s are way more powerful than 250s.

Clean up and fouling is minimal too.

250 is a large rifle mag primer, hotter than a 209 by miles.

For some reason I thought 209s were more powerful.
