If it's made from dried fruit without that freaking citron sweetener, it's pretty good. I can't stand citron. There are many better ways to sweeten it.

Why spend that much time and money making something so few people like? I was always hungry as a kid and I did eat some fruitcake out of desperation but even with a ravenous appetite it never did taste good. One of my old great aunts had a legendary fruit cake that the old folks in the family bragged on and to me it tasted awful. Why not a chocolate cake or a carrot cake?

Rocky: I see you live in Utah. Do those Mormons allow you to brew coffee? My parents bought their coffee and tea at Hill Air Force base. The neighbor kids were all warned not to drink any thing at our house. We had Coca Cola, coffee, and tea.

I'm only 50 and I don't mind a slice of fruitcake this time of year.
As mentioned earlier, better than egg nog, or pumpkin spiced anything.

Gawd awful stuff. It had to be invented as a gag gift or for someone the inventor hated.
I do believe it has it's useful purposes though.

I really enjoy a good fruitcake with rum and brandy and dried fruit.
None of the cakes with the candied "fruit" are edible IMO.

Glad you like them, Denny!

This is kind of where I am.

A variant of fruit cake in England is "Christmas pudding" which is a bunch of dried raisin-type fruits held together by some brownish color mortar - probably made from wheat/flour. This is eaten with "brandy butter" which is butter, sugar, and a whole lot of brandy. The brandy butter is a side, which you plunk on the christmas putting and stir it all in on your plate to make a nice mix. We eat it as a tradition because my family is, at least partially, of English heritage.

Absolutely fantastic.

My mom, 75, makes an awesome fruit cake. Dad loved the skittle version but I don't. She would make one that was more subdued for me. After Dad died, I thought she would make me 2 but she went the other way and stopped making them altogether.

This Southern Supreme fruit cake that was delivered today is delicious. Think I’ll go get another slice.

That's the only one to try in this part of the country, they really are good!

Ok mind reader. Thanks for posting that because
I was going to ask about it.
There's stacks of em here because these border
jumpers don't eat teutonic foods, but will eat
stomach lining and testicles all day every day.

It's a waste for Aldi to stock any german anything
around here because there isn't but probably 3 of
us pinche bolillos will buy any of it
