This year has been such a 180 from last year from a work perspective. Had been on 6-10s from the end of January until November. No bowhunting again this year. There wasn’t time to spend on the farm so there wasn’t any idea of what was running around. I was able to secure the first week of our firearm season off. Was really looking forward to getting out in the woods. The week prior to the opener I was really feeling drawn out but was sure it was just being burnt out from long hours all year.
Opening morning arrived and it was a nice cool morning with just a little breeze. I was still feeling off by a little but not enough to stop me from hunting. About an hour into the morning this buck came through on the same trail some does had used earlier and at first glance looked pretty good so I sent an Accubond his way. Straight down and out of sight.
When I got down to him I was astonished as to the body size. I didn’t weigh him but I bet he didn’t weigh 120# field dressed. A normal 3.5yr old here will weigh 175 or so even depleted from rutting. Don’t know what went wrong in his gene pool.....
Things started to go bad when I was bent over him field dressing, got very light headed and damn near face planted. Only had to move him about 25yds and that took everything I had. By the time I got him home and skinned I was spent. Fast forward to the next morning, couldn’t hardly move and had a little shortness of breath. Ended up in urgent care with a kungflu diagnosis......fugg...🤬 They scheduled me for an IV infusion treatment which seemed to bring me back to normal within a few days. Kinda took the wind out of my sails for my week off. Thankfully the crud went away and there doesn’t seem to be any after effects.
