I've never been a fan of the SBL, mostly because of the rail, stock and (to me) useless large loop lever, but it looks like Ruger is at least trying to do well by the Marlin name. I do like the new fluted bolt and that they have the 336 listed as comin in .35 Remington, the slimmed down forend and somewhat crooked looking serial number not so much. Here's to hoping that they soon make the classic 1895/444 and guide guns. Would also like to see the .356 and .307 Win. or the .338 Marlin make a comeback.

Any bets on what the first recall will be on this one? After all it is a Ruger whistle

Own a SBL Marlin. Just wished Ruger would offer them two ways. One with the peep and rail, the other with a higher comb stock for shooters who want to use a low power scope.

I love it.

It doesn't even tempt me, an easy,
NO!

Same here. A factory installed peep site would be fine, and I could find a use for the stainless/synthetic finish. But that stupid rail has to go.
I hope something blued and walnut comes out. I want to support Marlin, but I won’t be buying one of these.

They say everything happens for a reason.
For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

I would really like to see one without checkering, like my 1967 Model 39A or my 1953 Model 336.
I would soon have smooth wood as the cheap looking pressed-in checkering crap but that’s just me.
Never cared for checkering on a lever gun.

Can this handle the 45-70 High Pressure Loads (40K psi)?

Pretty is as pretty does

If that front sight is harder than Superman’s woody I’d be in.

My most tinkered w guide gun of our 3 has the rail, ghost ring rear, brass inserted post in front, lam stock as I’ve broken 2 traditional stocks, & is parkerized.

Great for my needs

Easily, Been doing it for years...

For that price, does it come with a brick of primers and a few lbs of powder? (coupons not acceptable)

Threaded muzzle, long ugly rail, laminated stock, safety on a lever gun, warning label on the barrel, $1400 price tag? Nope, no thank you.

Used Marlin, reblued, fixed and refinished the stock, WWG trigger and ejector. Not counting the scope, less than $600. Yes please.

Glad that Ruger decided to whittle down that ridiculous 2x4 that Remlin used for a fore-end. Hopefully the barrels will be indexed properly so that sighs will be on top of the barrel. I might buy one.

I’m a Winchester fan and would never consider a Marlin. With that said, they can keep the picatinny rail, IMO it looks stupid on a lever gun. Wish they’d start making the M77/357 and 44’s again. I need a 44, hopefully this coming spring.

If anyone thinks it’s priced too high think again, Ruger paying more for materials, higher energy, more health cost and increased wages to remain competitive. Looks about normal pricing to me these days.

I'm not a lever action traditionalist, so if I wanted a new Marlin, that's pretty much how I'd design one. SS, checkered laminate, threaded, rail, yes to all......
