Nice job. What stock is your rifle wearing? That is a Brown Precision. The rifle was built by Ken Gennecco of Stockton Ca for me in 1985 when there weren't a lot of options for lightweight hunting rifles. It weighed 7lbs 2oz with sling and 2-7 Leupold Compact when it was built. With the 2.5-8 and several coats of paint it has, like me, put on a few oz since then. Wait, wait, wait....... You mean to tell me that there is actually someone on here that put together an "all around rifle" and has stuck with it for 35+ years?! Can't be...... Couple years back I got a T3X in 30-06 and put a Loopy 2.5-8 on it for the same purpose. Looks to be in good company. Congrats on the elk! If you don't believe everything you read on the internet.... things like that tend to happen... Ask yourself, how did we all survive before the internet? or smart phones... some folks just keep on truckin with what has worked for decades and don't feel handicapped... Congrats on the OP for his harvest....

Nice cow congratulations - plain Jane seems a bit of an exaggeration based on what was done to your rifle. Only a real looney considers semi-custom plain. But she is still doing the job well obviously. Sounds like a little far back saved some nice meat for you too. I’ve got a bunch of fast 150 TTSX loaded up for 4 different 30-06’s bunt no elk taken so far. All the 06 rifles are back-ups for 300’s in our group so may be a while.

30/06 and a dead elk. Imagine that. 😁 Nice job. I see some nice backstraps in your future.

Just bought 150ea. 150grTTSX bullets from HuntinAZ here on the classifieds. I plan on loading them for my nephew's 308win for elk this year, but I also have a feeling a few will get loaded in my 30-06 also! 2900-3000fps and nearly 100% weight retention...what's not to like! Sounds like elk medicine to me out to 400yds. Elk Country

I am using the 168 gr TTSX this Fall for my first ever Elk hunt in my .30-06. I have them loaded at 2850 MV. Supposedly they expand at a lower velocity than other .30 TTSX,s like the LRX. I am sighted in to 550 yards, but will not shoot past 400.

Grew up in elk area in Montana and Idaho and only used the 30-06 twice on one elk and one deer long ago. That's changed and now got a few to learn on. Had to beat 30-06 and 308
