I wanted to get my first M1 Carbine before local laws made it more onerous to get semi-autos. Went to the gunshow and being a sucker for nice wood happily bought this one. The blacked out tag inset on the stock is from a local Sheriff's office which these apparently were issued to after Korea? Thats what the seller told me. Seems like this one has some nice history.

be careful, i started with one and would hate to admit the number i own now.
that one appears to be in good condition but is totally a rebuild. the stock has been refinished.
i wouldn't debate the circular decal thing on the stock being from a sheriff's department.
number of years ago i tore apart about a 100 of them coming in from a sheriff's department.
they had gotten them from an importer/exporter. they had come in from israel, and had star of
david markings inside, and honest to God some sand.
yours went through the rebuild programs from the safety, sights, and fat barrel band on front.
next job is to acquire the brass etc and military mags.
i think they are the only semiauto that goes select fire with seven magic parts.
i might add when i was playing county mounty in the 70's some of the guys had carbines in their cars.
it was before the advent of the ar15.

About 3 weeks ago I saw the first 30 Carbine ammunition for sale in over two years. It was $61.95 + tax for a box of 50 FMJ.

I've been saving a couple of boxes for several years, instead of shooting it.. Might still be a while.

One of this would be fun to use on a bunch of pigs caught in a big round pen.

My son has an M1 Carbine and it is a blast to shoot! Wish I would have stocked up on 110gr bullets a few years ago before they disappeared…

None of these look anything like mine. Have these all be restocked or refinished? The OP's gun also looks like a blue receiver. The whole gun looks redone. Is that the lighting?

Yup, ammo is a problem. Fresh modern ammo in the past has been priced like pistol ammo. Not a cheep as 9mm, expect to pay 38 spec type prices. Right now 9mm is getting close to $20. That seems like the typical 100% increase I see on a lot of post inflation costs. M1 30 cal is now right at $50 most places. I might start buying again at $35 given what current paper dollars are worth. The best local prices pre-covid was $20 per 50. Lower online. I dont expect that ever again. Copper and labor to high (or paper money to low).

Yeah, .30 M1 Carbine ammo is expensive. I handload for it but, don't have a lot of brass.
