I have never understood the logic of the word “notwithstanding”? Seems pretty simple...but is commonly used here. Here is what I mean: I f you google it, one of the meanings is “in spite of”, or I would say “in spite of” = “despite”. And if one thing is in despite of another thing, is it not “withstanding” that thing, and so why would it be “not”withstanding?

Tends to be used in lieu of "besides which"...which isn't exactly concise either. added, and it is written as one word "notwithstanding"...probably some horrid English throwback from centuries ago.
