A Tuesday night incident that resulted in the deaths of 10 elk on Highway 82 near Glenwood Springs resulted in a call for action from members of the Roaring Fork Valley community

Colorado State Patrol responded to a call at approximately 9 p.m. Tuesday night at mile-marker 7, Master Trooper Gary Cutler said. The incident involved a Roaring Fork Transportation Authority bus and a second private vehicle. No human injuries were reported, and no citations were issued since the crash was found to be “animal caused.”

RFTA Communications Manager Jamie Tatsuno said the crash resulted in damage to the front of the bus, including headlights, both windshields, body work and the bike rack.

Just wondering, what do they do with the carcasses? Hate to think the meat goes to waste.

I don't know about CO but in Idaho, it's often donated to charity by the IDFG. It's not all good free meat, though. Impact with a bus will mangle a good share of it leaving it too bloodshot to use. Idaho allows drivers to salvage roadkill. You just have to file a report within 3 days on an online form.

I Colorado it used to be deer and elk poached or hit by autos were donated to the local school district. Then the Feds found out and said that couldn't be done because the meat wasn't USDA inspected, so no longer do those critters feed kids.

Brilliant.......

The friggin' lifestyle immigrants here in Colorado are killing deer and elk at prodigious rates with their stupid, and unaware, driving. I'm at a point where I'm in favor if a motorist hits a big game animal they should get a ticket.

I’ve never wanted someone to hit a deer or elk with their vehicle more than you right now.

That sounds like a progressive liberal idea to legislate a solution to a problem that does not exist. I think I’ve heard it all now…
