He dang sure is, that 8 Bore of mine he built is a great piece, have only shot two deer with it, really need to find something big, don't know why it wouldn't flatten a bull Moose this side of 150 yards.

Gunner500, I flattened a bull moose with my 62. The 8 would do it with a LOT more "whoomph"!

Hell of a deal, great to hear Szihn, i need to flip up that front blade on the rear sight and see where it lands out to 125-150 yards, a big cardboard box with black spray painted bull will tell the tale.

I don't remember for certain. Too may years ago.
But most I make with 2 blade rear sights are zeroed at 75 and 150.

The problem with a real large bores is that speed of the rearward thrust in recoil acceleration will be faster if a smaller or taller man fires it then if a larger or shorter man does. Mass and flexibility both factor in. I can see small differences in point of impact when I make 50s and 54 cals and the owners are taller (most are) or much lighter or heavier then I am. I am 190 pounds, but I am only 5' 6" tall and I have brood shoulders, a 48" chest and a very short neck. So when I zero rifles in I let my customers know I try to make them shoot a bit low so they can bring them to a perfect zero by only filing down the front sight a tiny amount. That's a LOT easier then tying to put metal back.

Also the wider a shooter is the more torsion a rifle can give from the center of support (the spine) so if 2 shooters of the same weight have different builds with one taking cast off of Zero, and one taking cast off of say 1/2": the one with the larger cast-off will have the gun move towards the trigger hand a bit more in the recoil impulse then the man with the narrower build. However many men with very brood shoulders have more body weight then men with a "square build" so the tendency to twist at the waist can be less with the longer "lever" simply because of the amount of weight behind the linear recoil. The equation become complex as you add variables such as drop at heel, drop at comb and drop at toe. The supporting part of the stock which stops the recoil' rearward movement is the butt plate, and it is below the line of recoil. In custom guns it also often to one side of 6;00. so the recoil (cast-off) so the rifle will twist not just upwards but also a bit sideways. And even if 100% of the above can be factored into the plan, just varying the powder charge changes all the numbers ,just like pushing downward on a pry-bar will requite more or less force depending on where to push. At the end of the bar you move the bar the most with the least force. So more powers is like pushing down on the bar farther towards the end, giving the lever a longer "handle" to move the rifle not just up but also sideways.

A lot of verbiage to explain it, but the best way to know for sure is to do exactly what you just said. Load and shoot it and move the sights as needed until it hits exactly where you want. One man can't do it perfectly for another. I can often get them close for my customers, but it's impossible to guarantee it.
You've killed some game with it as I recall, so I have to assume it's pretty close already.

Dang! thanks szihn, very educational information, i never knew, i'll bench the rifle at 75 yards and see where they land, had no idea height and weight had anything to do with where a projectile landed as in relation to the sights, i'm 6'2" and 245, wear a 52" sport coat, guess average length neck, great stuff!
I'll file the sight if needed to get dead on at 75 then see where it lands at 125-150 with the front blade, iirc the powder measure that came with the rifle holds 300 grains of powder, all i've ever fired in it is KIK 2F lit with the musket caps, it is very accurate, both deer were hit at less than 30 yards with both having their shoulder center line parked directly on top of the front sight.

Goodness that’s a gorgeous rifle! I’d love to build one line that with a 38” Colrain octagon to round gain twist .50!

Really, all I’d like is something along the lines of the Pistor military Jäger in 58 or 62 calibre. Nothing fancy. One will pop up someday.
