https://www.gunbroker.com/Item/919577230Did anyone watch this auction for the last 2 weeks? As much as I love my featherweights I’m not sure I can spend this kind of cash. What do others think?

Glad I acquired mine years ago. The price and demand for short action stainless Classic model 70’s has really skyrocketed.

My .308 FW made in 1953 is not for sale, but that was a nice price.

Doesn't surprise me - you wouldn't believe what my M70 Classic SS/walnut LH .300WM in pristine condition sold for about 6-7 years ago.... I thought the bid was bogus - but the funds came, cleared and it was on the way to a new owner in CA... I just wish I had a dozen more to sell..

Half again as much as I paid for my NEW EW MB.
Whittaker has a new Dark Maple AAAA .264 in SS for $1270.

Virlee is practically in my backyard. That kind of number convinces me that I have no good idea of what some of my stuff is worth and even paying commission, I'd come out way better than trying to sell something myself. Looking back on some of the stuff that I've sold gives me sellers remorse if there is such a thing.

I was flabbergasted at what my LH Safari Express sold for last year. Kinda surprises me the right hand ones are going for so much.

To be completely honest, if the ss short actions are gonna bring this kind of money I might just start selling some off. I’ve got nice blued featherweights that hunt just as good as the ss.

Laid away a LNIB 270 WSM Supergrade with a B&C stock from late 2005. It shows the degrading moral in New Haven but shoots sub 1/2 MOA for posterities sake.
Like land, they just don't make em anymore. The Black and Tan kids are waking to Winchesters and classic bolt actions I suspect...

I’ve been looking for a 7mm-08 classic for a reasonable price and think I need to reset my concept of “reasonable” if I’m gonna ever score one.

Yes I was following the same auction and unfortunately not surprised. I think they will cool down some. Been looking for a 7mm-08 as well and ended up getting a X Bolt HCS a while ago that fits the bill however I’d much prefer the M70.

Never seen a 6.5x55 SS. Is that from the second run of stainless FWTs ? The ones with the black recoil pad.

As AK rightly points out, black pad indeed. The 7-08 is even more scarce, I can only recall ever having seen one stainless featherweight in that caliber.

Friend of mine has an early classic SS in 243. Are they very common?? Was thinking about buying it from him if price is right.

Had a friend tell me Gun Broker will be sending out 10-99s at the end of the year. Seems about right after GB and Uncle Sam get their cut.

I have made a few purchases with GB, I’ve never sold on their site. If it’s true, agreed it would change things big time.

I've been trying to land a short action 243 or 308 Classic featherweight for about a decade, the prices have gotten so extreme I doubt it's in the cards anymore. I ran some WTB's on here for years without a nibble. Even the FN's aren't in stock these days, but eventually I may pick one up - the reviews sound decent outside of the reworked trigger.

I found my .308 on proxibid about a year ago. Paid $850 but I was looking for very specific SS and 5 digit serial number. Problem is once people have them they don’t want to give them up. Keep looking you’ll find one.

Proxibid has several late production model new haven guns. You never know how these will go I set in on several auctions virtually and there are some in person also. Pretty cool process and interesting.
Here's one for you. https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/119546924_winchester-model-70-classic-fwt-7mm-08-rem-rifle
Did anyone else watch this auction. Lots of late production New Haven stainless/blued featherweights NIB. The 7mm-08 went for 1350 plus a 20% buyers premium. I was looking for a blued 5-6 digit so passed. There was 1-2 older used classics that sold at. What seemed like reasonable prices.

Many stainless featherweights sold for a grand or under (including some short actions) but once you add the buyer's premium they got spendy. There were plenty that got a higher price as well like that 7mm-08 and a pair of stainless featherweights in 6.5x55.

Around my LGS they call it a buyers "penalty" instead of premium. Last one I checked into it was 23%. Insane.

I couldn’t resist I went and looked at the SS classic 243 at it followed me home.
Model 70 SS .243 5 digit 70XXX with a factory wood stock and leupold scope for $1000. Would have liked t o pay less but you don’t see them everyday. I will try to post some pics tomorrow.

Pic 1Pic 2You did very well on that deal. Very nice rifle and 5 digit nonetheless. That is a bonus.. Plus the Leupold is worth some money. Can't tell if it is a VX3 3.5-10x40, but it appears to be something along those lines. Those are the kinds of deals I look for and buy..
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

BSA, I don’t remember off hand I think it was a vx2 but it is a 12x variable so not bad at all. Plus a short action.
AK, there is also a five digit 7 mag unfired in box on there. That is going to go for a pretty penny. Luckily I already have a 7 mag so they won’t be getting my money this time.

I wonder if my SS/Wood Fwt in 300 WM would bring even half the money of that 308.

Are these the same actions as the classic stainless that came in the black plastic stocks but dropped in a walnut stock?

Essentially; primary difference being the moa trigger on the BACO version.
They didn’t make a ton of the BACO stainless supergrades so that price doesn’t surprise.
And - point of trivia - there were no classic stainless supergrades made outside of the custom shop until the very end of the classic run, and those were the 7 digit wsm’s.
And before somebody jumps on me about the 358 STA - it was essentially a stainless supergrade just not marked as such!
