I'm glad I bought two when I had the chance - first was a 6.5 CM and 2nd was a 1:9 270. I shoot those two more than any of my others...

Oh yeah I remember when they first came out and anxiously waiting to handle a Barrett Fieldcraft until I did... For me the stock sucks and I didnt like the way the bolt handle attached to the bolt....I was not impressed and never bought one....Hb

a 223 would have been pretty awesome:

7 twist

2.5" mag box

5lb stainless killing machine.

but truthfully what they are isn't hard to find or recreate. what we really need is an swfa 3-9 "lite" to put on top the rifle. that'd be gold

When I was looking for a lightweight mountain rifle I was excited when a local gun shop received one.
It was a very nice rifle and a known shooter (not sure I've ever read a bad review) but just didn't fit me well and ended up with a Montana.
If it fit, I'm sure there would be at least one in the safe.

I own a couple, but the 7mm-08 is the one i grab out all the time. Balance is close to perfect and I have no qualms about the bolt throw or stock or finish or trigger, but thats the fun, not one thing fits everyone, I wish I had gotten one in 280AI but they never appeared that I could see.

Enough already, just shoot it!

I have a 270 1in 10 and it stacks 130 partitions with 60 gr. of H4831. 4 cow elk in the last 4 years, 1 shot each.

Ronnie beat Mel at his own game and by quite a margin. As cited prior, the S/S receiver for one and (5) 8x40's for bases, yet another. Hint.

Then of course as S/A offerings go,THE Trifecta was melded in unison and when RPM,COAL and Throat Geometry jive, dots are connected by literal default. Very few savvy same, which never ain't no funnier than fhuqk! Which also why theL/A's suck sooooooo very fhuqking badly,to the other side of the spectrum. Hint.

Though I hear they are "tender". Hint.

Fhuqkinjg LAUGHING!..................

I sure wish I hadn’t hesitated and picked a few up. A 7mm08 would have been at the top of my list.

I have one in 7-08 with the 18" barrel. It shoots really well with a little load work up but it's hell on scopes. Time to do what I should have 2 scopes ago and just put a fixed 6 super chicken on it. It's killed 2 ss 3-9s. My latest load is 180g eldms at just over 2500 fps. It's half moa when the scope is holding.

Some say it's slow but I think it's a good place to be with a thin skinned bullet. If a fixed 6 holds and my health keeps improving I may take it to Africa next time and do some bullet testing on culls. My 21" 6 creed FC shoots very well too. Still regret not buying more when SAS was hooking us up with them.

I m sure glad I got mine in 6.5x55 …. Action length works great for that mid length cartridge. Load 147 Eldms in it with R26 and it idles that bullet out of its 24” barrel at a low pressure 2850. Haven’t tried to take it beyond as at 2900 it seemed to open up a little.

Wish I d of also got one in 22-250 and maybe 270. Oh well, that train has left as stated by others.

The 6.5x55 really would be a good fit for the long action. I agree with Stick on the long action mag box being hamstrung....but, if it's accurate with the bullets someone wants to shoot loaded to mag length or less, I should stop whining and start shooting!

I've had a bunch of them in short action and one in long. I regret selling/trading the ones I've let go....and regret not picking up more of them when they were available.

Anyone pick up a special edition model?
Jungle green stock?
24” barrel short action? (Same contour as long action models)

Yep. The Fieldcraft is overrated. Outdated stock design, no way to mount the scope low enough to work properly, crappy balance on the 21" short actions. They were on massive discount towards the end of production and it still took quite a while to sell them out, so the market seems to have spoken regardless of much they're going for now.

I'll continue to compliment chris84 on a stainless copy of tlw's he made at a height lower than regular tally lows for the Fieldcrafts. I liked the rifles already....the mounts he made turned it from good to great for me.

The special run #2 barrel at 22" was much the same for me.

Matched with a scope I really like it's perfection for my use. That hasn't stopped me from trying a lot of other stuff but that one is "it" for me.

Including that one, there were 7 variations of 6.5 that I’m aware of.
