Saturday night double. The first one took 4! hits and the 2nd one just kept coming in. One and done for him. We're putting a new Trail 2 XP50 on this AR and I'll be putting the Thermion on a 22 Creed if I can ever get it built.
GTC22 let me know what you think about that Trail 2 … I was considering one but have also been looking at the Iray Rico 640 unit as well. They are both the exact same cost.
Me and a buddy took our boys out last night to a farm that the owner wants some critters thinned out. The youngsters really enjoyed the mixed bag of varmints. Good clean fun with the kids and a couple of .22 rifles!

Hell yeah. Most kids will never get to experience these little fun hunts. My pards boys are all but grown busting like to get in on the little barn yard killing, same for the pard and I.

That's great Think of small game animals and game birds that were saved If only everybody would take some time to do that, hunting would be way better
Great night of coyote hunting last night! We managed to knock 3 off their feet. Also, I just built my boy a 204ar night rig and last night was his 1st time to tag along with us and he managed to shoot one of them at roughly 200yds. Proud dad moment for me! The kid got his opportunity and he made the best of it. The pic of him dragging 2 of the coyotes after his successful stand is something special for me! Keep after em fellas!
cci segmented subsonic. 4 rounds to make him fall outta the tree, and one in the neck to finish him when he hit the ground. He was about 40 foot up.....
A German friend of mine was on bow hunt in Michigan decades ago. All he got was the "shot and missed a deer"-award from the Fred Bear Sports Club and a porcupine shooting out of a tree. The arrow didn't penetrate completely and he had to retrieve the arrow from the carcass. Even the blood of that critter was stinking he later said.
Me and my cousin got out for a nice hunt last night. We each shot big ol male coyotes. We probably should have taken both their partners as well but we choked on both. Oh well, that’s hunting I guess. Each hunt is a learning experience and hopefully next time we can use that to our advantage! Weather was nice and it was just a good night to get out. I’m really liking my .204 AR I put together for this night hunting! It knocks em off their feet. I’m really hooked on this night hunting currently!
Great shooting RickyBobby! My kid sent this pic over from the maiden voyage of the Pulsar Trail 2 XP50. He say's the constant ranging in the view finder is legit. Not sure Nanny would approve of using the grandkid as bait tho,
James, is that coloration pretty common in KY? Pretty unusual for around here but looks really nice.
The color is pretty much what most of the coyotes here look like. But, I've killed black ones, red ones, and saw one the other day that was as blonde as my wife is. So, they do vary quite a bit, but most of what I've seen are like this one.
Ping pong balls for the win. Once you've wrestled everything else in life is easy. Dan Gable I keep my circle small, I’d rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.

Been awhile since I’ve had a chance to get out. Took a quick hunt last night after dark in a new spot and called in a pair. Managed to take the female but couldn’t catch up to the male on his quick as hell exit! Lol
The super revolt is not small. It’s an awesome call though. The remote is much better than the revolt or the Foxpro shockwave. Last night was the first time I’ve used it and I’m extremely impressed with the quality. I’ll be cussing it when I have to tote it for daytime hunting though.
Back in the day, this used to be a good thread with lots of varmints being liquidated. I went out today and liquidated some more with a bunch of recent purchased guns. All the guns I have bought in the past few years still don't include a Creedmoor or fast twist 223. What I do have, however, are a few new to me guns in:
Cooper Jackson Squirrel 218 Bee Cooper 17 CCM Winchester Pre-64 Super grade 220 Swift Colt 2nd generation 45 Colt customized by Bob James for Ted Williams Colt Bisley 4 3/4 inch 38-40
And a 2000 Chevy S10 with gopher guts from being too close to the impact of a particular gopher...
I caught a glimpse of this guy in a brush pile a couple weeks ago and had been keeping an eye out for him everyday. Pulled to the back of the barn this evening and gave a quick scan with the binos and sure enough he was sneaking around the brush pile, moving in and out of sight. I got the truck positioned, laid out the bags on the hood, ranged the brush pile at 280 and began the wait.
10-20 minutes passed when he finally crept out of the pile and started munching on something. When he finally moved to where it was safe to shoot I let him have it.

Very nice guns and wonderfully displayed with the quarry. What did Bob James do with the 5.5incher by customizing it?
At what distances did you take the varmints with the revolvers? What's your load in the 45 Colt? I always dream of a 2ndGen 45 Colt with the 5.5 inch bbl. I even would prefer it over the 4.75. But I am also happy with my Ruger NM Blackhawk Stainless in 45.

He did a total action job on it and made custom bone grips for it. He does a better job on his actions than Bob Munden did. I shot them at about 25 feet with 250 grain cast bullets and a bit of Red dot powder.
Don't settle for the Ruger, get yourself another 45 in a Colt SAA. I will even sell you this one...
got a start on em this morning. No little ones out yet, so took me dang near 5 hours to shoot three boxes of ammo. Started with the .17 AH IMG_0271 by .com/photos/156405073N02/]Tim Richard, on [bleep]
Nice work. I got a couple doubles today. Tripples hard to come by. Most of my good gopher ranches have been gobbled up by corps. Still have one or two. I used my cz 22 mag.
Finally got the pocket gopher thats been tearing up my back yard around my porch all year. Went outside to empty my bladder and saw him popping in and out of his newest hole. Went inside and grabbed my .22 wmr, ended his reign of terror. Shot him a couple extra times, for good measure. Hence the unidentifiable mess. He was really pizzing me off. Little jerk finally slipped up.
I don't shoot many coyotes this time of year, but this one was out back last night. He was with-in 40-50 yards are bedded twin antelope, although he had no idea, and momma doe was not happy, AND he was mangy. Got situated on the deck with a bipod and rear bag and the 393 yard shot was a piece-o-cake with the .22 Creed. IMG_0290 by Tim Richard, on [bleep]

Laws aren't preventative measures. In other words, more laws won't prevent gun crime from happening.
Had a business trip that took me through an area with a few prairie dogs. So I took my Sako L461 that I had rebarreled along for the ride. I had a couple extra hours on the way home so I pulled off the highway into an area that looked promising. Never saw any big towns, just the occasional mound here and there so I got a couple here and there. Made a loop on the way back out and found an area that had a dozen or so mounds ranging from 100-400 yards. I popped a few close ones here and then picked up on a mound just ahead of the sage brush with two dogs on it. I misjudged the distance with the 223 and put the first round just below them and threw dust everywhere. One went down the hole and the other ran off the back of the mound. I reloaded and waited until he finally snuck up the backside and showed his head. He stood up for just long enough for me to let the 55 gr Varmageddon fly! I thought I had the holdover right this time buy he disappeared with no satisfying ‘pop’. I shot one more and the drove around towards the back of the field to see what was beyond the rise, but it was filled with brush. No chance of seeing anything out there.
When I turned around, I recognized the 400 yard mound where I missed those two earlier, except I didn’t miss the second shot! There it was, hit right in the middle where I had aimed. I went ten dogs for eleven shots! Not too bad really, but nothing really long range either. That old Sako is just a pleasure to shoot. I had Pacnor put a 10 twist on it when the original finally gave up the ghost. Figured I can shoot up to 69 gr with it if I want.
The 55 gr Varmageddons are very accurate but not as explosive as I was hoping for. The 40 gr BT blows em up a lot more than this. They get the job done though.

HP or Tipped Varmageddon?
Explosive at 200 or less?
I have about 500 of the tipped, was hoping for maximum expansion for a 55.

The last time that bear ate a lawyer he had the runs for 33 days!
Tipped. Don’t get me wrong, they do the job. They’re not like a Varmint Grenade though - he he. Nosler was selling 222 35 gr lead-free as factory seconds a few years back so I bought 500 of them. I shot a few hundred last year and the dogs definitely do aerobatics when you hit them. They say they are running 3800 fps and are more spectacular than the 55 gr at 3240 in the 223. I have some 55 gr vg loaded in the 22-250 and will have to give them a go next time.

With the heavier varmint bullets like the 55 grainers, if you want carnage.... Instead of actually shooting the sage rat or prairie dog, I usually aim right in front of them as close as I can get to them in the dirt.... let the round ' bounce' up as shrapnel on them instead... I get pretty consistent about it, just by a little scope adjustment... when that is within 200 yds or so.... when the round comes up after just exploding like they are designed to do... that is a lot of shrapnel, hitting them... more like a mini bazooka or RPG.... they blow into "parts"....
if it hits them just right it can put them 5 to 8 feet in the air, especially if they are standing on the edge of a hole, and there is dirt mound wall behind them...
other times if you don't have the mound wall behind them, and it hits them just right.... the right half of them goes flying 10 to 20 feet in one direction.... and the left half does the same in the other direction...
originally fell into this experience, just coming up short on them when shooting at them, and hitting in front of them...
after I saw those results... I just wait for those type of shots to present themselves...
guess that is where the term " Red Mist" originated... sure motivates kids and even other adults when you've taken them out..
have also entertained Mexican farm workers when they break for lunch and sit near by watching me doing that...

I need to work on some coons this year. How do you like that Swampfox? I put a Sentinel on a Hellcat 9mm just this week but haven't shot it yet. First foray into handgun red dots.
65gr Sierra Gameking at maybe 75 yards, quartered hard-to. Dropped like a rock with a nice "thwap". It's still too hot to sit and wait for them, but his little crew stepped in front of a camera on Saturday and I managed to get there as they were leaving out.
I believe that's what he was. We were doing a camping/float trip; our tent was set at the waters edge and it kept coming up to the tent entrance. After running him off twice and not wanting to wake up with a snake in my sleeping bag, I elected to use lethal force.
What a beautiful animal. Where did you kill it (country). I've seen it's brown cousin a couple times, but nothing that pretty. You mount it, rug? or is it a common critter where you live.
This morning with my Parkwest Arms Varmint .22 PPC.
Indeed, very nice trophy and rifle/scope combo. At what distance did you take Wiley? What's the data of the Leupold scope? And what kind of wood is the stock made of?

I caught this guy trotting across the pasture. Even though he was just trotting, something didn’t look normal about him. Tried stopping him a couple times by barking but he just kept going. Put the crosshair on his nose and squeezed.
Lost sight of him at the shot but drove the truck straight to where I shot and there he laid. AR15, 6.8 SPC, 120 grain SST, 168 yards.
Poor thing was in bad shape and eat up with mange.
Don, very nice still life. How do you carry the gun? Condition one? And what type of holster? Any issues with the SA 35? What kind of ammo do you use? Besides that it's obviously deadly!
Right at daylight this morning. 35 Whelen 200gr ttsx over 58.0 Varget @ 2672…
140 yards…melted
Surprised a gun that small would even kill him!!!

Fo' sho' more than once we've worked a cat for over 40 minutes only to have him disappear for no apparent reason. Likewise had a few hang up at 300+ yards...and never come closer.

It’s been 20 years since I killed a coyote. They were pretty few in Alaska and the ones we did have were hunted pretty hard. And with Etta’s health I never felt like I could do any extended fur hunting trips. Especially the last several years.
We came over to Eastern Washington to visit mom after two really rough weeks with Etta’s back. She’s on the mend. And I needed some decompression time. I spent the day calling one of the ranches I used to trap when we still lived here. They were happy to have me chase some dogs.
My second stand this morning seemed just like the first. No action. After 20 minutes I opted to move on. I hadn’t taken five steps and spotted this one standing about 200 yards to my left. My first shot spines him. As I got closer he picked his head up and the second shot at 50 yards was heart/lung and finished the job.
It was also first blood for my 6mmx222. I used a 60 grain Sierra HP over 25 grains of H335 and a Remington 7 1/2. Both exit wounds were right at an inch.
Chronographs, bore scopes and pattern boards have broke a lot of hearts.

Picked up five around the house here. Experimenting with new rifles 20P, 22-250AI and pulled out an old timer 6x45. Plus different scopes, killed three with the new Leupold Freedom 1.5-4 PigPlex, I'm really liking it on my lightweight 20P, I made my longest shot the other day, 200+ yards across the stock tank, all the rest have broke cover under 30 yards.

Pretty little coyote, she'll look good in the bedspread for the wife.
2nd female today, got this one while checking water this evening making sure every thing is dripping Weather guesser says 26 Deg Tonight, but he is 75 miles south of here, think we will have a hard freeze tonight. Rio7
This one jumped in to the water tank when i shot him thought he was going to swim away, but he rolled over and started doing the back stroke but didn't go far.

Interesting. Here the coyotes follow them around letting them flush gophers and prairie dogs. I dunno what the badgers get out of it but we watched a pair get separated by a small hill one day and when they reunited, so help me, they touched noses and went on about their business together .

I think they are both ( skunk and badger) part of the same weasel like family...they all have a distinct air about them.
