If you had a week to 10 days to bowhunt elk next September in Wyoming, and were completely flexible on the dates, when would you hunt and why?

If you want dumb and full of cum. Early September.

If you want outta their mind bigger ones being silly, last week of September.

But the big ones being silly are generally surrounded by cows………..

These beaches will make you pay……

These are central Idaho observations since 1991.

Early Sept will have campers out in full force, especially Labor day weekend. Atvs everywhere just riding around. Elk will still be active but bugles will be very far and few between.
Some years they are going crazy late Sept.
We've had good luck early and late , weather plays a big role some years.
Looking to be a dry winter so wallows may be key during the heat.
Later Sept could bring a huge snow storm and feet of snow, access will be limited then.

We hunt it every year for archery.

Would send you a pm but you don't take them.

WITUfan: If your dates are "flexible" then Hunt the first week and then come back and Hunt the height of the rut from September 15th through the 22nd.
Good luck.

The very first week in Sept will be very busy in the MBNF, lots of campers for Labor day weekend. Some years the elk just don't talk then but last year they were vocal . You'll likely see more hunters than elk that 1str week but they will be close to the roads.

Last week in Sept lots of folks show up to set camps for deer season and will bow hunt a few days for elk and deer, more folks on the mountains then too.
Plan for the most week days you can hunt for your dates and you'll have less resident pressure.

3 rd week usually has elk talking, but again you never know.

I’ve had great luck the first week of the season before the woods fill up with people. The elk are most active around the 20th of September. Peak rut varies in intensity and duration each year but that week is usually a safe bet.
