Our good friend called me, the power line to our place in NW Ontario is torn down, and Hydro One pulled the meter out of the socket.

I called Hydro One, and was informed we will have to pass a new inspection before the will hook up back.

It looks like a special trip, if not two to get the power back to where it was, and, no doubt a couple thousand dollars, or more.

That's not right, good luck with it.

Don't forget your quadrupled vaxx card to cross the border.

It's going to be a real mess.

Jim, I don't know, I called the Ontario Police, and left a message hoping they will look into it.

Evnin Wabi, how much time do ya spend up there??? Go propane heat, stove, fridge, 12volt water pump, and propane hot water. I believe that if your hooked up to the grid later there going to charge you delivery even if your not using power. Have a small back up generator away from the cabin in an enclosure or shed (exhausted out side) you'll never hear it. Just a thought, good luck. Bill. 👣🐾👣🐾🇨🇦

Depending on the "re-inspection" requirements... it might mean 2022 code compliance... that will be a big $$$ ouch.

They will do that when the loop is in such a state of disrepair that it is a danger.

+1 Get off the grid if at all possible. I’m guessing to comply is going to end up big $ anyway.

I've worked over 30 yrs for a couple different utilities.

Yep, once a service is damaged and needs to be replaced it has to be replaced under current codes. Typically a 22kA rated service.
Typically the service is the responsibility of the property owner, the utility only owns the meter head placed in your service socket.
Most utilities aren't responsible for trees on your property falling on the line, or for a snow slide off your roof knocking out your meter
Most utilities will not reconnect to a service pole (if damaged) older than about 5 yrs, you have to replace the pole/service drop.
If a service is damaged they pull the meter to keep someone from reconnecting to it in a sub-standard manner....you know like okierigging or "other" type of rigging.
