I ordered a new CA Mesa 308 earlier this week just because I haven't bought a gun in about 2 years and I've never owned a 308. I am looking for some advice on projectiles since I'll be loading them myself. I know with the 1-10" twist the heavier bullets are probable better but I also want a bullet light enough to stretch it out if I want to. This gun will be used for hunting whitetail. Any input is appreciated

I've gone as light as 110 gr. VMax in a standard twist .308 with fine accuracy.

It's you and the bullet, and all the rest is secondary.

I have Mesa in .308. Bought it this fall and popped a doe with it in November.

I used Winchester 150gr power points.

Now that I have time to work up a load I’m hoping to use 130gr ttsx, 165gr or 168gr Berger VLD’s.

I like the gun.

The last couple of deer I killed with .308 was with 150 gr Accubonds, I was very pleased. I usually use Ballistic tips.

There are many fans of the 155gr Lapua Scenar here on the fire. I am a die-hard Nosler and Barnes shooter but gave them a try last fall based on all the success in this linked thread. Worked great and extremely accurate.

Doesn't really get going until the second page - lots of experience here.
I also got a CA Mesa recently and have been very happy with it. It's the most accurate rifle I've ever owned. And I've done nothing to it but load development and adjusting the trigger.

Good luck and enjoy your new rifle,
Rex

I bought a CA Mesa in 308 this past year and have lots of 155 Scenars which is all I've shot in it.

The one I have does well with federal fusion 165 grain.
