What would you buy if you wanted the most accurate gun at that price?
might be used for everything from varmints to big muleys to ringing steel.
Moderate weight is OK, but let's say 10# max for the gun.
AR-10 or bolt gun is fine.
Thanks.

Howa 1500 and some pretty nice glass all for under your price range. I have had several and all were accurate.

Always remember that you are unique, just like everyone else.

Tikka, Sauer, Mauser & Ruger American are all rifles I have experience with and they are all very accurate .

I had a TC Compass 6.5 that would shoot factory ammo under 3/4” 5 shot groups. Cheap gun but a damn good shooter

Howa 1500 or Remington 700. Bergara is good as well.

Id look for a used CTR or sako A7 long range, like I just sold. Buying new is overrated, but a lot of you do it

My Dimension shoots rather well. And it was under $900 with both .223 and 6.5CM barrels, bolts, magazines and the proprietary tools to swap 'em.

With a new rifle, you know it's history. Pretty nice knowing that some bubba didn't ruin it. Bought a beautiful 700 classic 250-3000 here a few years ago. It arrived perfect on the outside. Quick look with a bore scope revealed a horribly pitted barrel.

There seem to be many that are capable of precision, which is what I think you really mean, but for you to shoot accurately you need to consider the package as a whole: rifle, scope, mounts, ammo. Start with a rifle that fits you and feels good to you in operation, then add the other stuff, paying special attention to acquiring a reliable scope and sturdy mounts. Without a solid optics setup, you’ll be unable to take advantage of the precision that modern manufacturing allows at even bargain prices.

For quality at bargain prices, I always start with Howa or Weatherby Vanguard. Many like Tikkas, and there are some inexpensive rifles from Mauser, Sauer, and Franchi that are reportedly “accurate”. Lots of people buy RARS too. A kimber Hunter, if you can find one, is worth a hard look. My son has used one for several years and likes it a lot. I considered one in .308 last year, but ended up with an M70.

Yes, pappy that's what I intend.
Also why I'm starting at a price point for the gun alone. Need extra$ left over for the other stuff.

Same could be said for buying used.

If buying a gun to shoot targets with you might as well go new....

If it's a hunting gun then I might go used.

I just bought a Remington 700 22" bull barrel 6.5 Creedmore new for $715.00 total tax and free shipping from a Cabelas in Washington state to the Bass Pro near me.

Put a 3x9 Varx II Leupold on it and range tested it with factory Hornady ammo the other day....bore sighted at 50 made two shots along little a scope adjustment then moved to 100 yards.

First two shots at 100 yards same hole...1" high in the same hole just above the 1" stick on orange dot....I had to walk down there to be sure.

Here's where I screwed up....i should have put up a proper target (with a level) but dumb azz me shoots for the 5 shot group at the 1" orange dot.
My scope was basically blacking out the dot and I had no reference for level...next shot 10 oclock about 1" out....next shot 3 o'clock 1/2" out had another at 6 about 3/4" low.

Did a total clean and shot 2 more similar 5 shot groups....believe it or not the first two shots in the second group were in the same hole with a similar surrounding 3 shots.

Did another total clean.....this group it put 3 shots cutting in the same hole with two surrounding shots.

Cleaned the barrel went home took the scope and mounts off and just bought a better stock and trigger...next step will getting my buddy to glaas bed it

With a little tweaking i think she might shoot.

My first 6.5 CM is a Vanguard2 that I bought in 02/14 and is the most accurate straight out of the box with factory ammo centerfire rifle that I have yet to own.

Back then it cost $590 OTD and worth every dollar.

You might do better or you might do worse, since every rifle, no matter how similar to another, is an individual and you won;'t know it until you use it.
