My wife caught a real deal on a 7 day trip to Puerto Vallasrta Mexico with a local golf club. $2000.00 all inclusive in a beautiful condo on the beach including air fare. I asked about covid, but she assured me "no problem if you test positive they let you stay 10 days for free to recover". Now comes the problem, she and her girl friend have covid. She is sick as hell, has been for 5 days now. They are testing her every day at a cost of $250.00 per test, still positive and sounding worse. Resort has her and her friend in complete lock down, can't leave their room. The resorts sends up 3 meals a day and sends in a tech to test every morning, will not allow to go to a local clinic or hospital. All for "free". She's in great health but this [bleep] is kicking the hell out of her and I'm really worried talking to her. Not sure what to do at this point, kind of helpless. No meds, pain or otherwise.Waiting until morning to see how she feels, but seems to be getting worse. I'd like to get her to a hospital but don't know how to get it done from here. After the the first couple of days I'm really starting to worry. So much for a cheap get away. $250.00 per test and now that they've missed the charter flight one way are fare home is $1500.00 or more.Don't get me wrong, the money is not a problem, just really worried I'll loose her in some [bleep] hole third world country. I don't know if I make the trip it would do any good, Guess it's not a time to say I told you so. She's stood by me while I've travel world wide on some sometimes iffy hunting trips and solo hunts.I really miss this gal, and am helpless. Prayers please. Nothing like the good ole USA.

Hope everything works out. But a prime example of why I'll never leave US soil again. There nothing worth seeing anywhere else to risk my freedoms and safety. Yes, I consider any place other than the USA a "[bleep]". Good luck and best wishes for a safe return.

Be supportive of her choice, if she's asking you to come get her that's a whole nother thing. Keep asking if there's anything you can do. When she gets home you can hold the cost and I told you so for years. You know they do it 😉

But in all seriousness just follow her lead, she got herself into it, you only need to jump into action if she asks for help. If you want to be helpful then volunteer to talk to the airline and make other arrangements. I bet you can find her a flight for less than 1500 if you think about it.

Daughter and I were in Puerto Vallarta March of 2020 when given the evacuate notice. After watching the market crash, then cutting short the stay, seeing the insanity at the PV airport, I felt like never going back. We were supposed to meet old friends after a fishing charter to get drinks. They never showed up...turns out they got locked down at their resort because the wife developed a cough! She got escorted to the hospital for testing, then released when it came back negative. Hope she recovers soon and gets back home OK. For what it is worth, I would go back again now that time has passed.

Charter a plane with the other gal and get her the hell out of there. Call the consulate if they give you any BS. My guess is Mexico doesn't want here there either if she's got Covid.

May want to check on a private aero-med flight. Most often done via jet. They're a little costly, but sometimes covered by insurance. If it were my wife, I'd pay it. I use to fly these aero-med flights early on in my career...many to Mexico picking up sick Americans. Often times being under the care of a Mexican medical facility only exacerbated people's condition.

We went to Puerto Vallarta this past summer and stayed at a big villa on the beach with a butler, cook, and maid. It was really nice. Some lab techs sent its people out to us for the test and it was only $35. The resort is raping you in the test fee. But I guess that isn’t too surprising since the rest of the stay is “free”. But, anyway, though it wasn’t explicitly said, I got the impression that there was no way we were going to fail that test no matter what. Of course, that was seven months ago so lots of things could have changed.

I don’t really know what to tell you though. Puerto Vallarta isn’t that bad of a [bleep]. It is actually a kind of carved out economic zone where the dollar is an official unit of currency there. Lots of rich Mexicans buy property there as an inflation hedge and of course, there are lots of foreigners. So, there will be good medical care there. You can probably walk up to a drug store and buy ivermectin. But she isn’t getting out of that room until they get a negative test or into the the US either. So no need to send a plane. They won’t let her back in anyway.

Your best bet might be to have her ask someone how much a negative test is going to cost her.

Some of the therapeutics are easier to get in Mexico.

@jameslavish

If you work 40 hrs/wk: at 5% inflation and after 5 years, you need a 28% pay raise or to work 44 more hours (*one full extra week* per month+) to make up the difference.

This is inflation

US won’t let her back in until she tests negative.

We've just cancelled our trip to Mexico for the second year in a row. It takes some of us a while to learn!

dang man,. sorry to hear this.

if it's any consolation..... the CURRENT mortality rate is 0.25% (2.5 people in 1000). so great survivability now compared to a year ago (about 17 people in 1000).

praying for your wife + friend + you.

And raise holy hell.

Like I said find out who you have to pay and how much it is going to cost for a negative test. Then she can go to the airport and get out of there.
