The rut is really just kicking in here. 😊 lots of “chasing” tracks in the roads the last week or so.

Saw several out yesterday feeding. Hungry from the post-rut cold snap. Still had horns on.

In my experience, our deer only drop this early if they are stressed. We have one that has dropped but he also looks like he caught a broad head in the shoulder (one of the neighbors or perhaps a trespasser).

Not yet, they are still sparring. But my records show it might start in another week.

I shot a big 4x4 last night here in southeast Iowa. I dragged him out by the horns, so they weren't close to being gone.

I haven't seen any of the recognizable bucks minus "horns" yet. I saw the "board buck" (I call him that 'cause he's a 2x4) tuesday chasing a doe around our hay field. His neck isn't swollen anymore but he's still clearly got "intentions."

Tangential, I know, but we had a late fawn born on or after Sept 15 this year. I saw her a couple hours ago .. doing well. She has turned "blue" like the other deer, just very tiny. I'm bettin' she makes it.
