I always thought of a no dash-three, 3” M66 as the “holy grail” of S&W.

They are sure priced out thataway.

Some think this revolver might bring 6 figures if sold.

I've been wondering what it's worth or what value people are putting on it.

Interesting and certainly valuable, but I doubt it would even make the top 10 of the Holy Grail S&W.

Kevin,

What would you consider as the top 10 Holy Grail S&W's? I'd be very appreciative to hear your take on it:)

If we're talking true Grail S&W's, I'll pick guns that were a much bigger part of history than a prototype.

Here's MY list, I'm sure others would have very different lists.

1 - Registered magnum number 1, that went to J. Edgar Hoover
2 - Registered magnum number 2 that went to Julian Hatcher
3 - Eleanor Roosevelt's cased .22 Outdoorsman
4 - Virgil Earp's No 3
5 - Frank Hamer's triple lock
6 - Patton's registered magnum
7 - Elmer Keith's 4.5" .44 special N frame
8 - Skeeter Skelton's 5" M27
9 - Bill Jordan's M19
10 - Daniel Wesson's 8 3/8" registered magnum.

Yeah, but the factory letter stating it was a prototype makes it something very special for sure.

I once saw a 6" M29 that was marked 19-6...but that was a mis-stamp.

It's still a Model 67.

While it may be uncommon, being that it is a stainless gun with a model number reserved for blued versions, I personally would not get overly excited about it like some of the collectors do. I would rather have a 5" 1950 Target Model in .44 Special, which there were very few in the length were produced. Or a 5" .45 Colt skinny barrel Model 26. A 5" Model 26 would really be something I would put to use in the field!

Being a 38/44 guy I’d love to handle one of the experimental Heavy Duties they built in 30 Carbine. Pretty useless I admit but still a neat piece of history. I think they even made some with at least the cylinder if not the whole frame made of aluminum.

I think the main hubbub around this one is that A: it’s a known experimental, and B: it was produced at least 5 years before S&W built any other SS revolvers

Good lord, 30 carbine. That’s got to be one of the most obnoxious chamberings ever. That I’ve shot anyway.
