I spent all day cleaning a mini fridge I found at the dumps.

It wasn't in the dumps...it was sitting on the ground before the dumpster. That means it's still good!


Nope. Nearly ruined a couple gallons of milk, a bunch of cheese and several cabbages.


The sumbitch went all the way in the dumpster when I took it back.


We have an outside fridge freezer...but when it gets cold we have to abandon it.

3 caribou and 60' of gill net for salmon keeps the store-bought to a minimum. At that, I only took just over half my 35 fish limit. I ain't sharing my fishing take anymore, so that's enough.

We eat a bit of chicken and pork for variety every once in awhile. seldom beef. I'll make an effort for a moose next fall also. Ain't sharing that either if I get one - that's two years eating right there plus a few dozen quarts canned.

Buying beef off my farm manager every year has friggen ruined me from eating industrial beef. Can’t stand the mushy mouth feel and the slimy fat. Now the bastard has started half bred heritage pigs, and I’m on the hook for one or two of those every year. Now industrial pork chops are dry and chewy....

But compared to you guys, the redhead and I are just pikers, merely two freezers and three fridges.

That could very well be true. My farmer buddy down the road refuses to raise a few for his friends and church buddies. As for me, I used to raise chickens and even egg layers for about 12 yrs. I could not raise a meat bird for cheaper, however, they were far superior to the store bought ones. Now days I just buy a rotissery chicken. Sometimes they are only $5 , but they are barely 2 lbs. At least it's cooked and packaged. We could get our eggs as cheap as store bought , but barely cheaper. Our eggs too were far superior , however.

It takes a lot of hard work, and a lot of money to raise cattle.

Short of game, I do not freeze meat. I generally cook what I just bought.

Too much competition around here for placement on that list.

Easier just to go to the foodbank. It’s a judgment free zone.

It wouldn’t be so bad if the ranchers got some of the increase. I don’t know where it goes but not there.

I'd like to find some beef like that. Everytime we've tried to buy a prime Angus it turns out to be an old Holstein that died of old age out behind a dairy. If the farmer does ever get us a good cow the butcher swaps it out for some old garbage in the back. I need to find a farmer and butcher I can trust so until then it'll be costco. I've had the best consistently from Costco but I'm sure there's better beef out there.

Saw outside skirt steak at Publix yesterday for $23.49/lb. I literally busted out laughing at that one

$6.50 a pound for 80/20 ground.
