Some farmers and co-ops are already together in this area to sell straight from the farm bypass that middle man.

We grind the barley and put it in a self feeder.
They can eat as much as they want.
We keep mineral and salt in front of them. Plus some straw and grass hay.
just like Golden Corral Yep. Less sweet tea however.

What we do is take our tail enders and put them on feed.
The price is a break even for us....but we basically get our beef for free that way.

[ Country of origin and kill date USA according to the butcher and store owner, from West “By God” Virginia, Greenbrier County which they state in a newspaper ad. Kill date I cannot confirm. I know the the butcher who does the dirty work, he’s done a beef and hog for my brother, although the beef and hog came from Raleigh County, WV.

Buying beef off my farm manager every year has friggen ruined me from eating industrial beef. Can’t stand the mushy mouth feel and the slimy fat. Now the bastard has started half bred heritage pigs, and I’m on the hook for one or two of those every year. Now industrial pork chops are dry and chewy....
But compared to you guys, the redhead and I are just pikers, merely two freezers and three fridges.
Must go atone........ I'd like to find some beef like that. Everytime we've tried to buy a prime Angus it turns out to be an old Holstein that died of old age out behind a dairy. If the farmer does ever get us a good cow the butcher swaps it out for some old garbage in the back. I need to find a farmer and butcher I can trust so until then it'll be costco. I've had the best consistently from Costco but I'm sure there's better beef out there. Bb Richard has one beef left. PM me and I’ll give you his number. Mine is getting killed in the morning. What are you paying wrapped? I put up beef in the Classified about 2 weeks ago... $5 - $7 wrapped (final was actual)... NO TAKERS. NONE... ZERO. We sold it last year for four and half to five. I hear ya... and I am glad for ya... TOUGH BUSINESS
If you are not actively engaging EVERY enemy you encounter... you are allowing another to fight for you... and that is cowardice... plain and simple.

Just so happened we had to be in the city last week. Sams Lexington, & picked up all this.
Choice, whole strip loin $7.37. We've bought many of these & first 2 cuts out of this one did not disappoint.
Assorted pork chops, $1.29
80/20 ground beef, $3.30
Chicken quarters $.89
Baby back ribs $ 3.47
This all seems reasonable considering, & nothing like some of the prices I hear of in some parts.

High on the quarters
Decent on the 80/20
I can still get quarters 59cent
80% is 4, almost 5 between a couple different stores
But I missed a $3.29 lb sale 2 weeks ago.
Some ultra-gunho asshat “conservative” called me a damn liar on TikTok and banned me. I’m a Trump guy but I woulda smashed this fugger’s chiclets in like a shark. He said hamburger meat was $8 a lb “almost everywhere” I told him we had burger $3 a lb and that he was full of shît. lol Mfer getting his info from Brighteon

Small chain store close to work usually has some kind of steaks on sale. Yesterday was NY strip for 5.99. All sourced locally.

My buddy lost his grass so he had to take his bred cows to Miles City.
Bred cows mind.
He average 670 dollars a head.
They were not butter ball fat....but they were skin and bone either.
670! If it doesn't rain well this spring, we'll be sending anout half the herd to town to take a similar beating. Drought last summer, with a hail storm in June that hammered about 1/3 of our pasture.

Drought last summer, with a hail storm in June that hammered about 1/3 of our pasture. Around here, I'm wondering if there's going to be even 1/2 the herd left at the end of this. Spot price for hay has crept above $300 per ton, some touching $350. Guys that didn't have their hay bought have no choice but to pay and go broke, or sell and go broke. It's just brutal.

I just wait for stuff to go on sale and freeze it. Regular prices are in fact stupid. Worst example I recently saw was a pack of stew meat for $7.99 a pound and laughed my azz off.
