Cost & cost effective two different things?? Not an excuse to not shoot, a logical reason to shoot something better for less cost.

Probably because there are a lot of guys who can't afford to whether they want to or not. With inflation spiraling upward, if a guy's wages aren't keeping pace he'll cut out recreational stuff first. As a single guy living a simple existence, I can devote as much personal treasure to the sport as I feel like. I shudder to think if I had a wife, kids, house payment, car payment, etc. how much I would have for shooting sports.

Of course, if it's just an excuse, well, yeah.

Always loaded on my free time, the same time as watching TV, reading the paper or surfing the net. Hard to put a price on that.
The 17 is a good one, I just don't have to pay the current price at this time.

The old prices aren't likely to come back due to inflation if nothing else,,, but had to eat the words I spoke during Obama. I said the same thing, "we'll never see $5 a box shot shells or $20 a brick 22's again". But we did.

Seems like there is one person who lacks 5th grade reading comprehension skills. Cost and effect are two different things. 50 cents a round for a cartridge that spits out a 17grn pill at 2550 and shoots 1 1/4 inches at 100 yards. When I can load 17 hornet WHILE I AM AT WORK for 5.50 a box of 25 in 30 minutes? Or reduced 40grn 223 for 7 bucks per 20?

Nah. Just, as mentioned, use it as an excuse to shoot SOMETHING ELSE.

I can have just as much fun shooting my 9mm’s, at 40 cents a shot, as the 5.7, which is now gonna run 80 cents to a dollar a shot. The 5.7 is fun, but not $20 per “mag dump” fun. Time to bust out the SDS Lynx, and burn through some dove loads.

great choices for skweeks past 100 yards. sometimes 'something else', don't make sense, except to cheapskates.

I dig that The Brokedick Faction is ammo pissed and "extolling" schit rifles to boot. Hint. Fhuqking LAUGHING!

My Anschutz 1717D HB will reliably shoot .5MOA clusters at 100yds,even with me yanking the trigger. I've a Clark Custom 77 17 Hummer and it fhuqking pales. As do my Franklin. Hint.

I'm hoping my Vudoo Hummer arrives by Tuesday,if only for extrapolation. Hint...................

Wow! .5 moa @ 100 with an Anschutz. I thought all 17's shot like that. What I get for thinking, right? Right grin

Thought my pawn shop Salvage was just average, but I might have to extoll it more. It serves a flier out of 5 to give .5moa. If I cared to source the flier, the other 4 are at .35MOA.

Please report on Vudoo if it suits you.

I can't remember if it was 2017 or 2018 my LGS had a big sale on Federal 17HMR ammo......it was $8 a box but a limit of 20 boxes. my friend that went with me laughed at me for spending $160

Went back the next day to spend another $160 but it was all long gone
That price is guaranteed to never come back

I don't own a 17HMR, but I do have a couple of 22WMRs. I'm not exactly sure at the moment what the going rate for a box in my area is. But it seems like the last time I bought it 4-5 months ago I paid around 18$ for CCI Maxi Mags. I have around 350-400 rounds or so of 22WMR and I shoot them very little so those will last me many years. But with the future being so uncertain, if I needed it....I'd probably spend the 20-25$ or whatever it is to get it.

No, I don't need any at the moment. Some years back I sold my CZ512 American 22WMR because of lack of ammo. Then, around 2018 it became available again. So, I bought another CZ512 (a Carbine this time) and bought bunch CCI 40 gr GamePoint & FMJ and 8 boxes of A22 ammo (35 gr GamePoint; 200 rounds/box). My CZ512 is most accurate with the A22 ammo. Can't remember what I paid but I'm sure it was not as much as the going rate today. Now, if only I had done this with small pistol mag primers!!

I can't justify shooting a rimfire at $0.50/round. I stocked up on 17HMR before the crisis luckily. I also don't own a 22 mag. But I've been shooting my henry 357 more than anything else lately given that I can reload 38's relatively cheaply!
