I was just wondering what type of Terrain, ya all hunt, I have to use a topo and compass because all the ground i hunt is stright up and down, Hill country, And i use my topo to travel the ridge top's, <P>What kind of terrain do ya hunt? <P>------------------<BR><B>Sunrise Is Awesome!!!!!!!!</B>

I hunt public land swamp osceola's, and that means swamps, with or without the water. Last yr. it was without and it looks like it's going to be without this yr. cause it's real dry. Fires were burning where I hunted last yr. (it looked like a war zone going in before daylight with all the stumps still burning and smoke everywhere) and it made for a perfect hunting situation. All the thick underbrush was burnt out and the thick swamps were opened up and dry as a bone so you could just walk anywhere you wanted. The usually pond like wet swampheads were dry and it made for a perfect little pasture like area for green grass to grow up. I killed both my toms in this type setup before the season even got started good. Here's the first ones pics. from the swamphead to the wall. I did the taxidermy myself. and while I'm postin pictures here's the other one, from the swamphead to the floor (or in this case front yard). It's a homemade mount too. Now it's bout time for some new birds to take pictures of and brag about. I still got three deerheads I'm going to attemp to mount that I got this yr. <B>Hoyt, very impressive pic's and mounts!! Those spurs look like 1.5" or longer. Thanks for sharing.<P>TH, the hills and flat land here in New York aren't that bad to travel. Can you say flat!Here in South Carolina where I do the majority of my guiding and hunting it is not uncommon to only have a 15' elevation change on 5000 acre tracts. Makes for very large range turkey habitat. It is nothing to see a gobbler three or four miles from where he started the day by 11.<P>I do like my hunts in New York those ridge birds are a blast!I have noticed big differences in strategy are needed when you add elevations.<P>John Coit

I have 2 places that I hunt and they are both on a hill.<P>One is a steep sucker and can give you a good work out climbing it....it is a mix of brush and open hardwoods along with one big open meadow.<P>The other is a gradual slope and contains patches of Cedar trees with alot of open areas to call birds into.

I'm in the Smokies! The only difference between this country and the Eastern Sierras, where I used to hunt, is altitude. Oh and the vegetation is thicker!
