Contacted Bob (1899guy) a while back to say Hello and see how he was doing. Mentioned what a good time was had at the 2016 Savagefest in Wellsboro and jokingly asked if he ever considered hosting another ‘fest. Bob indicated he also had a great time and if scheduling permitted he would do it again. Never too early to start planning…..just gauging interest in attendance and some potential in-the-future dates.

RAS has been trying to organize one for the last 2 years, and the pandemic keeps putting a kabosh on it.

Yea, we're do for Savage Fest. I've been waiting to see if RAS was going to try again this year so been dragging my feet. But I could throw another Savage Fest later on in August or September. Prefer August before school starts here. My hope would be to have new book release/signing too. Both Rory & David have worked hard on these and many have contributed.
So I'm not committed yet. Due to geography I don't think Eastern and Midwestern Fests would compete really. Depends where you start, either is a pretty good drive. Options are open currently, but booking facilities, etc. needs to happen soon if it's going to.

If hell don't freeze over, the creek doesn't rise and the new book is out I'll try to attend but will have to fly and have the books shipped. But don't hold your breath. The publisher is still saying the book will be released in the Fall.

I really tried putting one together 2 years ago but Covid crushed that one. Then last year I put out a questionnaire to see how many people felt OK and coming and I got a lukewarm response. Meeting some people still weren’t comfortable in gathering in groups. Which is fine. But as far as this year I haven’t done anything. If somebody else wants to take the cog, then have at it.

I would like to go.

I’m not getting any younger so I’ll throw out a date for Wellsboro, how about sometime in June/July 2023?
It’ll be here before you know it.

Being I'm still a working stiff, I can only commit to one fest a year....and I'm committed to the Noxen fest. Love the comradery every one of the last 4 years. Bonus is getting to shoot our irons before dinner and adult beverages surface. Look forward to it usually start salivating about ....now.

I am interested. I really enjoyed 2016 Wellsboro, which is the only SavageFest I have been able to attend. Since giving my only 99 to my SIL, I am looking for a replacement, but have yet to narrow down my specs.

Any of that would work for me with the exception of the last full weekend in July (27th-30th or something like that)

Update Wellsboro 2023

Bob (1899guy) requested that I further gauge interest and put some dates out there for the group to consider.
He will make whatever date the group decides on happen.

June 9,10,11 2023
June 16,17,18 2023
June 23,24,25 2023

Messaged Bob a while ago and related that about 10 members had expressed interest in Wellsboro on the weekend of 23, 24 and 25 June, 2023 and asked if those dates would work for him. He just got back and indicated those days sound good. Will bump this thread up regularly to keep the venue and dates in the forefront, answer any questions and maintain a current roster of attendees.

We were trying to do them every two years but Covid messed it all up. The two years was a question at the time it was posted. The answer was one year.

I'd love to go, if I could fly up and catch a ride.

Just too much driving back and forth from Florida, if I'm going to make Noxon again in August.

Fly up to Baltimore and I'll snag you Tim. Gotta warn you though, we'll be going right through the heart of my family seat and I'll likely bore you with a travelogue. Lots o' trout/fly fishing opportunities along the way......

OK, so I'm a little confused here. Are we talking about a Savage Fest like the every two year one, minus the covid year we missed, that we had in WI last Sept or are we talking about the annual gathering in PA? Two entirely different get togethers. Which is it. Confused minds want to know.

Plans are to hold a Savage Fest (the every two year get-together that was messed up by Covid) in Wellsboro, PA on June 23-25. There are currently 17 individuals who are planning to attend. Savage Fest 2016 that was hosted by 1899Guy was also held at the Fire House in Wellsboro. Additional info will be forthcoming as it becomes available.

The annual Savage Rendezvous hosted by Triple_Deuce will also be held in Noxen, PA in August 2023. Don’t believe the dates have been set yet, but Joe will be along to provide additional details.

As for lodging…..Penn Wells Lodge, Canyon Motel and a couple others. Also, some nice campgrounds (I stayed at Stony Fork Campground).
There were several spouses at Wellsboro, seemed like they were at the Fire House quite a bit, but I’m sure they out and about.
Hopefully someone will chime in.

Hey, Ted. I'm too lazy to go back and look. Are we in the same facility as last time? I think we were across the street, within easy walking distance. But, I'm getting old and forgetful.

Hope to speak with Bob (1899guy) soon. He did indicate that he was planning to hold the Savagefest at the Wellsboro Fire Department (the same venue as in 2016).

I made a post a few days ago but looking here now it seems it did not upload to this site. Yes, I am all in and planning to do the same event at the same location. To find it on a google map, find the McDonalds in Wellsboro, PA. Look in their backyard. Its right there basically. My anniversary is on August 1 so any scheduling for this event within a week in either direction will result in my being single, so please keep that in mind. That said, I need for you guys to make some suggestions for dates. I presume we get access at roughly 5pm on Friday night for any setup and then have the place until Sunday afternoon.

Please post all thoughts and suggestions.

Looking forward !!!

Norm, wherever you land (BWI maybe?) there will be folks, me included, who would be glad to pick you up and bring you to Wellsboro.

That would be great, but i am wondering if any of you know where the best regional airport , would be so i can figure out timing ,cost return trip ,that kind of info , and as you mentioned a possible ride from there to Wellsboro.

Thanks Norm

Probably Wilkes Barre/Scranton Pa or Binghampton, NY which is still going to be a 2 hr drive, maybe 3. But there isn't anything very close.

BWI is Baltimore, MD. That may be your best bet if you have a ride.

I think Tim is flying into BWI. Gary and Tim might come a couple days early to do some fly fishing. But, I'm close to BWI and can pick anyone up. I think Roy flew in Thursday evening. A bunch of Campfire guys met us and had dinner, then he bunked at my house and we left for Noxin Friday morning. Then Keith flew in Friday morning and I picked him up then left for Noxen.

I know we are talking about Wellsboro, but it would be the same game plan. If you get an early flight we leave straight from the airport. If you can get a cheaper flight the day before, you can bunk in our guest room that has a full private bath. Same for departure.

Both Wellsboro and Noxen are essentially the same time and distance from Baltimore Joe.

.

thanks everyone for all the info and [[answers of BWI]] ,at this time that seams to be the best for rides. other places like State Colledge or Scranton may come into play if rides become available.

is there someone thatcan give me an idea on costs of motel hotel rooms in the area.

Thanks to all Savage loonies.Norm

Norm,
Lodging at Penn Wells Lodge, Canyon Motel and a couple others. Certain that others will check in with more info. You will be attendee #21. See you in Wellsboro.

If you fly into BWI and have to overnight there, you are my guest. As it stands, Gary, Tim, and I are going and having a fourth would make getting a room in Wellsboro easier. We could get two rooms with singles instead of one room with two beds and a cot. I’ll be checking on rooms this week, I’ll keep you posted.

Joe, I'm still in. I need to get with Gary to see about fishing a couple of days before or after....or both. I want to book a flight soon, but we need to firm up the dates. I'll call Gary within the next few days.

Thinking some more about this, has anybody investigated flying in to Harrisburg? That is directly on the way to Wellsboro too for those of us driving up from the south. Our route (I-83 north to Harrisburg, then Rt. 11/15 for a large chunk of the rest of the way) would take us right past that airport. Bears looking into in case there's some kind of good airfare deal to be had for that destination. I have a friend who flies a lot and lives in Hagerstown who often flies out of Harrisburg - the hour+ driving time is made up for by the airline deals she gets.

Google tells me it's 136 miles to Wellsboro from Harrisburg.

I shoulda thought to bribe Ted to hold it outside of Baltimore, in March right after the Baltimore Gun Show, kill two birds and all that! Or, pick a hotel in downtown Baltimore - plenty of opportunities for shooting too, if you catch my drift!

I would book rooms soon ! The Sawmill Traditional archery shoot is happening the same weekend in Morris PA right down the road and there’s not a lot of rooms in the area. Also plan on sight seeing as you will be in the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon country and it’s beautiful. With a little luck I’ll make the shoot and savage fest

If anyone needs to fly in for this, don't hesitate to consider Rochester, NY airport. While it is a 3 hour drive, its a very easy drive with only 2 stopsigns between the airport and Wellsboro. 4 lane hwy most of the way.

For hotels, don't just look in Wellsboro. There are several about `15 minutes west of Wellsboro on Rte 6. The Canyon Motel is one and there are many cabins for rent in the "Ansonia" and "Rexford" areas. Suggest if some want to group together and rent a house, you could save a bit of money too as many choices with multiple bedrooms for $200 and less per night. Look at the Pinecreek Lodge on VRBO or AIRBNB. The Pine Creek Lodge has 4 bedrooms I know and is very big. Not sure if it is available but there are many others in that area. Several campgrounds too, one in the Gaines, PA area, I think it used to be called Kearses Campground but that was long ago. Very nice though. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions as I grew up in this area.

Joe, there are several "cabins" houses for rent on AIRBNB and VRBO that are directly on Pine Creek. Would tie into your fishing plans and by getting a place with multiple guys, will save much versus a hotel room. Just a thought.

Rochester, NY should have much better flight costs than Harrisburg, at least back before Covid it did, and its a very similar drive as Harrisburg, straight shot on 4 lane hwy but roughly 3 hr drive.

Plans for Savage Fest 2023 on June 23, 24 and 25 in Wellsboro, PA are full steam ahead.

The Scranton-Wilkes Barre International Airport (AVP) is a 2 1/2 hr,, 115mi. drive to Wellsboro thru Pennsylvania’s Endless Mountains.

A few of us stayed at the Stony Fork Creek Campground (570) 724-3906 during the 2016 ‘Fest. More than adequate for my needs with individual camp sites, fire pits, hot showers and a 15 min., 9mi. drive from the venue.

Just informed by an attendee that he booked a room with a queen bed at the Canyon Motel and there were only two rooms left, both single queens. He also indicated that his reservations were made at Booking.com and the savings were substantial when compared to booking through the Canyon Motels website

Not really, more like a gathering of like-minded people to celebrate everything Savage.
Good food, drink and comradery.

I'm interested. I have a 300 takedown and my son has a 300 featherlight. Is there going to be brass for sale and stuff like that?

Not normally but if you find someone that is going ahead of time that might sell some you could save some postage.

I’d post a wtb in this thread, maybe someone who will be at Wellsboro has some extra 300 Savage brass laying around.

Contacted Bob (1899guy) last Wednesday to inquire about any updates he would like me to post as June was rapidly approaching. Just received a pm from him today with bad news, The Wellsboro Firemen’s Annex is already taken for the dates of 23, 24 and 25 June. There are alternate dates in June and July available, but at this stage of the game it just does not seem practical to attempt to reschedule the gathering.
To those coming from afar who had made reservations and plans to attend, please accept my heartfelt apologies. I’m sorry, but these unforeseen events were beyond my control.

Sorry to hear.
Hey sh it happens. We'll shoot for next year, that’s all. We still have Noxon, in August.

In the mean time, Gary and I still have a reservation for a couple of nights, and intend to hit a few of the local trout streams.

The dates for my Rendezvous are Aug 18,19, and 20. As of now the cabin is full but there is lodging nearby in Tunkhannock Pa or there is plenty of room to camp if you want.

Guys, I think we pulled the plug on the Wellsboro Savage Fest too quick. Let me see if I can find another venue. Please send some feedback here to let us know if you guys already cancelled flights. I really think there is a chance I can find another spot, in Wellsboro for that same weekend.
Sorry for any confusion, just hit back here so I know you all still want to come. Thanks, Bob

Norm, if this happens is there someone who will be there that I can ship your books to? It will save you the postage to Canada. It cost $180 plus to ship 10 books to Ontario.

The cost of shipping has gotten stupid. It cost $82 to ship one book to England.
I ordered a new rumble seat lid from Speedway Motors. They are 800 miles from here and the shipping would have been $250. I had a friend in Lincoln, Ne. pick it up. I'll be going there for a car show in June and will get it then.
I hope they can find a new venue for the Noxen show. I'm too far away to attend but I like seeing you guys getting together.

To be clear, the Noxen Rendezvous is not in question. It's the Wellsboro Savagefest that is up in the air.

wyo1895, for very good pricing on shipping, go to www.pirateship.com
The pricing there is better than the special cost my business has with UPS. They also have USPS shipping. I cannot recommend this enough for affordable shipping.

I use pirateship for shipping my books and other things. Easy to use, much better pricing than at the post office.

They will, but they can only do so much on the price for international shipping. It's still expensive.

Update on Wellsboro location for Savagefest June 2023.
Can someone send me a pm that knows how to upload pics to this site? Pm me with your cell number and I will forward the 2 pics for you to post, and thank you whoever replies. I no longer know how. Anyway, I have a couple pics of the hall that the Wellsboro Moose Lodge rents out. I think it might be a bit small but lets post them and get an idea from the group.

Not to worry, if this is too small, I will find something large enough.

Keep the faith!

Is it smaller than the last place we had it? We filled the building last time.

Kitchen? Dimensions of the inside usable space would allow for a table layout.

Ok, I just spoke to the manager at the Wellsboro Moose Club. The place looks like good size but it is not as big as the last place. If someone will send me a pm, I can send the pics I have to them and we can post them to get an idea if size is enough. If not, I will find a larger place, not to worry.
Also, is anyone who is going a member of any Moose Lodge anywhere in the USA? If so, we can get the place for a "small donation" and not the normal rental price.
Another issue is that there is a "bar" attached to the other end of this facility. We can close the doors but they are not lockable. That said, closing is expected to be 10pm or 12-midnight and if anyone can stay until that time, once closed the place is totally locked up. Give me your thoughts on that.
Again, send me a pm so I can send these pics to someone who can post them please.

Is there a separate entrance or do you have to pass through the bar to enter the room? What size is the room. Dimensions will tell how many tables it will hold.

Also if there's a bar at the end...

We usually ask for a volunteer to sleep overnight in whatever building the Fest is in. Just as on site security. Would that be possible here? If not, how secure is the building?

Manager there told me its totally secure at night. While Wellsboro is known for little crime, my initial concern is patrons of the "bar" becoming aware of our firearms being stored there overnight. Personally I think if they don't allow us to have one of our members stay there overnight, its a deal-breaker. I will also find out if there is an alarm system, which would possibly present another conflict if we have someone spend the night there. More to follow.

You might try the Coudersport Consistory in Coudersport, PA. 45 miles west of Wellsboro on rte 6. The rental hall is huge with full kitchen. http://www.coudersportconsistory.com/ We hold Gun Bashes there every October.

Or the Galeton Moose Club in Galeton, PA. It is at least twice the size of Wellsboro Moose club. They rent out the upstairs for groups. 22 miles west of Wellsboro on rte 6

ETA: There is also a nice Fireman's Annex building in Mansfield, PA 12 miles east of Wellsboro where some of you plan to stay anyway. It is pretty big and has hosted the NRA banquets for years.

I have some very bad news. My sister has late stage liver disease and for the last 2 weeks I have admitted her into the hospital 3 times and then also driven her 3 hours away to a liver specialist. She is going back into the hospital tonight. I cannot be sure to be able to attend this at this point given my priority with my sister. That said, I can still run with the Mansfield and Galeton ideas, which are good ones btw, but it must be understood that I myself may need to not attend and someone else would need to take over.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Do we pull the plug for this year or do we schedule it and have another person take over if I can't make it.

Sorry to hear about your sister. Family first.

It is looking a little iffy. Unless this Fest can do a big turn around for the positive I think Rory and I will vote to cancel for this year.

Bob, just saw your post. So sorry to hear about your sister. Prayers for her and you.

I think it's very unlikely I'll be able to make a Fest this year even if somebody does get it together. Family stuff..

Joe, so far, the plan is for Gary and I to go anyway, and do some fishing. Interested in joining us? There won't be any Savages present, but a few beers, some Irish whiskey and a fine cigar or two, might be.

My cancelling has nothing to do with lack of interest. It has to do with other things have come up in my life that's going to make June/July very, very busy.

Thanks, Bob. It’s a lot of work just trying to get 5 of my high school buddies together for lunch. One little glitch and it becomes a nightmare. Thanks again for trying.

Plus, if I never said thanks for that last Wellsboro event, shame on me. That was one of my all time highlights of playing with Savages, the guns and guys.
