so primed some brass, Hornady first and used Winchester small pistol primers for Hornet, did Prvi brass and used both winchester and federal small pistol primers, the brass was alright with winchester, but did not work well with federal, they were too tight and squashed the federal primers, so have to go back to winchester primers in this brass.

Interesting. I’ve got a few bags of PPU 22 Hornet brass that I haven’t used yet. I’ll be cautious but don’t have much else to add.

I've heard rumors that later PPU brass wasn't annealed, either, and splits when trying to fireform it to K-Hornet. (I shoot a stock Hornet, so it doesn't matter to me, but I thought others might find it helpful). The older PPU brass is pretty good stuff, or so I'm told. I've only bought one box of it, and still haven't tried loading it yet. I've still got about 40 rounds to shoot up before I endeavor that chore.

I’ve loaded some PPU 22H brass with both CCI and Fed small pistol primers. I don’t recall any issues at all.

I fireformed 400 factory PRVI 22 Hornet cases to K-Hornet and lost a few to split necks - it's been a few years but want to say it was 3-5% loss. Prior to that, I loaded new PRVI Hornet brass to fireform and lost closer to 10%, FWIW...

I've always used Rem 6-1/2 primers in 22 Hornet/K-Hornet with W-W, R-P and PRVI brass and have never had issues. I'm just glad I have a lifetime supply of them with the way things are currently...

PPU 22 Hornet brass has less case capacity then Win; Rem; and Federal. 13 grains of LilGun will not fit, even with vibration. I have read that the alloy used for PPU brass has a lower brass content and that is why it is heavier. Since I am not a chemist I cannot confirm the brass content. I can confirm that PPU brass is the heaviest of all I have weighed.

Bob, I just loaded 200 rounds of 22H with 13.0 Lil gun in PPU brass. It fit just fine.

I haven't known anyone using a Hornet for years. I used to know a guy who bought one of the new TC Contenders in 22 Hornet when they 1st came out many years ago. He had an easy way to load since his brass and powder worked out just right. He'd scoop the case full of 2400, scrape it across the top, and seat the bullet. It worked great for him.

I use PPU and other commercial brass to load my M 70 Winchester made in 1950 .22 Hornet with 10 grains of W 296 or H 110 and 45 grain bullets. All brass cases work fine.

I load 14 .5 gr Lil Gun in my 22 K-Hornet with W-W and R-P brass which fills cases to about 1/16" below the mouth. 14.2 gr fills PRVI cases to the same level. They are heavier/thicker cases, but also harder/tougher which seems a worthwhile tradeoff.
