Looking for flies that would work well for whitefish this time of year. Used to use red ants and whitefish specials, but can't find any. What would you suggest?

This time of year you will definatly do better fishing nymphs. In most waters I've fished they like caddis pupa or nymphs if you will. Prince nymphs have had some pretty steller moments as well. I prefer beadhead (tungsten) versions myself.

Any size 12-16 nymph or egg pattern. They aren't picky.

I pick them up mostly with weighted nymphs that are getting near the bottom usually with an upstream cast and allowing them to dead drift down as I lift the rod.

Any nymph size 12-16 with a bead head works, we mostly fish beadless to avoid them.
Prince nymphs, pheasant tails, hares ears, etc.
If you want to match a hatch this time of year, use bead head midges and eggs.

Looked for those fly suggestions and things are thin. Couldn't find them around here. I did go out yesterday, saw 3 whitefish, got one bite and my friend caught a brown.
