Dad decided we are going on a pig hunt. It's a night hunt.

The outfitters provide ARs with thermals and all kinds of fun stuff.

I'm thinking a shotgun with TSS might be handy.

Any idea on what size to run, chokes, effective range?

Hi Mauser,

I have not used this myself but a few guys that I hunt with swear by #1 and BB in tss. Take that as second hand info, I would look at the number of pellets per ounce and penetration at the distance you will be hunting. Hope that helps but I think tss is a game changer for a lot of shotgun hunting. Have a great weekend. Gary U

Thanx Gary.

I know it's performance on turkey. I was guessing #1, BB, maybe T.

Be nice to find someone that does it and can speak of patterns and range before I commit to rolling some up.

For the style of hunt, it could be a great tool. Essentially the pigs are spotted from distance with thermals and then a stalk is put on. Get into a good safe shooting position and let the shooting begin. No limit or anything. After the first rifle Crack, a shotgun could be a handy tool of we're close enough.

Unless you plan to outfit your shotgun with a thermal it may be of limited to no use. As fast as they shag out when the shooting starts I’d want a rifle myself.

That said, I have killed some pigs at close range with regular lead birdshot and it works great if the ranges are short short like less than 10 yards. I’m sure TSS could extend the effectiveness a ways but I doubt it would be far enough to be a real game changer until you get to really big shot.

I would want a rifle, difficult to get close enough to a pig to use a shotgun. Pigs have better noses than deer.

I have laid a traincar load out with buckshot... any size under 40 yards and they are toast... 2 3/4" works fine too. Just straight lead or copper coated is fine. You are wasting your money on tss

I agree. Regular 00 buckshot will mess em up good inside 60 yards. if they fall down you have to drag them out of the field

buckshot

tss is expensive and not optimal for that.

We've killed them with turkey loads, but shot at close range in the ribs, knocks the breath out of them, then you walk up and finish them.
