Took the .17 out for pigs one night in Texas and was shooting the now discontinued 30 gr. Berger varmint bullet. It performed flawlessly.

The tableau...

Thanks for the pictures and for your untiring efforts with pest control.

I believe that the various seventeens are generally underrated, but obviously not under-performers in chosen situations and in capable hands.

The intermittent availability of 25 and 30 grain bullets is handicapping some of the shooters who have discovered an interesting and useful subcaliber.

Between the eyes or in the ear hole works best. Though I have killed them with neck and body shots. I’ve only used the 25gr Hornady, none of those 30gr elephant loads.

Brain shots is the only thing I'll take, but the rifle is accurate enough to thread a needle with. It more often than not electrocutes them, and they never even twitch. If however there is any doubt at all, I give them an "insurance" shot. Im pretty sure anything but a brain shot would result in losing a pig in a big hurry.

ingwe great job on the shooting. Head shots only for me as well. Mainly because I don’t like tracking them and normally shoot them where I can drive right up to them. Btw if you ever get tired of that rifle let me know.

Laws aren't preventative measures. In other words, more laws won't prevent gun crime from happening.

On those smaller ones it’ll stiffen them up right there with a chest shot, at least up to 40 pounders. I shot a 25-30 pounder right in the root of the tail as they were making tracks for safer places. It broke his pelvis and rendered both back legs inoperable.

Brain shots are definitely best but I don’t pass any shots or take any prisoners when it comes to swine. The big 17 is capable of some amazing stuff, I really wish there were some tough bullets for it.

I've not used these. Do you use any of the .224 bullets too?
