Had a Mexican cook offshore that cooked dried pinto beans then fried them and mashed them as they fried. He used an excellent seasoning mix of his own. They were the best I have ever eaten. I don't hnow the seasoning mix but he fried them in bacon grease.

I use the dried as well, when I don't have time to make scratch. They have a much better flavor and you can mix them to any consistency you want.

Mexicali Rose is the brand I find locally. They have black beans too.

Tried making em for the first time a few days ago. Soaked for 24 hours, then used the pressure cooker. Didn’t want to add too much of any seasoning so I could have an accurate baseline of what they taste like naturally.

Not bad. Definitely needed more salt and reserved liquid than I expected.

Today we tried the dried beans from Amazon. Both the wife and I agreed they were far better than any canned beans we ever ate. When the bag goes empty we will order a case next time.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.
