Yep. I’d be curious to try them too.

Fook, you are paying a LOT of money for a beat up bean!

Here is how we do it:

1) Dried pinto beans, rinsed, check for bad beans and pebbles (yes, rocks in a bag of beans is a thing, if you didn't know that, you've been cracking cans open your entire life)
2) Dump beans into Instapot/pressure cooker
3) Cover beans 2" deep with beef stock and some diced sweet/yellow onion
4) Pressure cook 1 hour
5) Strain beans and put in blender, with a bit of the bean water. Add a spoonful of bacon grease/lard and a heavy pat of butter. (those instant beans have lard too. Check the ingredients. Relax....)
6) Blend. Add garlic salt, CUMIN, and the pressure cooker water to thin to desired consistency. (or, more butter/lard to taste)

Now you have BETTER refired beans for 10% of the cost (plus your time)

Just tryIng to understand.

Refried beans put in a can are bad.

But refried beans, dried out,
then reconstituted, are good?

Is this a serious thing?
Or simply playing on biases?

I just do it like my old Mexican neighbor did. Melt a tablespoon or so of bacon grease in a pan. Dump in canned refried beans. Add a couple pats of butter and some Mexican crema until the beans are smooth to your liking. I have since found out there are quite a few Mexican restaurants that do it this way. YMMV

What ever goes out of the bean while they dry ...needs to go , I've cooked them from scratch, and added butter and all that to caned beans etc ..the dry bag tastes the best..imo ..and my wife's..then the neighbors...etc . Lol ...... I go to Great Links in order to get my food correct, different stores buy one can each of refried beans, go home open them all up and test sample......same thing I did with tomato sauce, stewed tomatoes .....whatever...... I'm only eating what I think tastes the best ....then its the only thing I buy .....screw the rest

Had a Mexican cook offshore that cooked dried pinto beans then fried them and mashed them as they fried. He used an excellent seasoning mix of his own. They were the best I have ever eaten. I don't hnow the seasoning mix but he fried them in bacon grease.

I use the dried as well, when I don't have time to make scratch. They have a much better flavor and you can mix them to any consistency you want.

Mexicali Rose is the brand I find locally. They have black beans too.

Tried making em for the first time a few days ago. Soaked for 24 hours, then used the pressure cooker. Didn’t want to add too much of any seasoning so I could have an accurate baseline of what they taste like naturally.

Not bad. Definitely needed more salt and reserved liquid than I expected.

Today we tried the dried beans from Amazon. Both the wife and I agreed they were far better than any canned beans we ever ate. When the bag goes empty we will order a case next time.
