Love his music, know nothing about his politics and activism, although could probably guess.
I have one of his 33's lurking around here somewhere. . Got into it when I was driving big trucks.
Especially appreciate the laconically delivered run-on sentences in his lyrics, that were almost rap-like back when they first came out. But every syllable of which was backed by a grin and a wink.
Worthy. quintessentially American.

His song Convoy was never one of my favorites, but growing up with 4 brothers, there were other songs we liked much better. We still use lines when speaking to each other from Wolf Creek Pass to this day. We wore out that cassette

Last trip to see Mavis Davis, with a dress like two scouts puttin up a pup tent, goin through Wolf Creek Pass with Virgil and a stop off at the Old Home Filler up and Keep on Truckin Cafe. My kids and I loved those songs.
