Someone must know something about this Marlin that I don't. To me it's just another 30/30 in great condition but what makes it worth this kind of $$$. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/925161550

Absolutely nothing.... Purchased for 175 bucks at K-Mart I bet..
A good principle to guide me through life: “This is all I have come to expect, standard lackluster performance. Trust nothing, believe no one and realize it will only get worse…”

I have seen such items go similarly high. I always wondered if the auction actually closed or if it was a shill bid, trying to artificially inflate the market. Saw this several decades ago with WW 2 Mark 2 knives. They could be purchased for $50 at any pawn or antique store. Then suddenly the action prices were as high a $1,000. Decided it was time to sell some of mine. After selling several I quit selling as the realized price I got was going market prices WELL below what the inflated value was supposed to be.

This was on another thread as well. Money laundering operation is what that is. It'll bring down the heat on all of us if it continues.

Lately I’ve seen a few really nice 24 inch barreled early 1970s 444 Marlins with the old silhouette stocks with very nice wood and in excellent condition. A Marlin in 444 Marlin is a much more desirable rifle than a modern day Marlin in 30-30 Win. Prices were $1,700-$2,200. If you ask me those bids are bogus.

IMO, the only thing special about it, is that a complete idiot is about to own it.

I wonder if the owner didn’t bid on it with another username. As someone stated in another thread, the buyer has made a fair amount of $4k-$25k purchases lately. Look at the buyer's feedback, he purchased a rifle for $25k from CDNN, a pistol for $9k, another pistol for $4.8k, another pistol for $10k, all this month. He's not the owner on all those. Either he has a lot he wants, he won the lottery, or he's laundering money.

In the late 60's early 70's you could buy one from H. Brown furniture company in Nashville for $79.95 complete with scope, sling , ammo belt and cleaning kit .Same setup but a model 60 was $39.95 .

I have a brand new never fired Marlin 30-30 from around 1973. I bet if I listed it that I would never get 10k for it.

That does seem fishy. I did see a new marlin stainless 45-70 big loop on grabagun the other day for around $2600. I think that's a stupid price.

The seller probably got in trouble with "the ol' lady" who told him to sell some guns. He can now honestly tell her he has this Marlin listed for sale, but no one is buying!

OMG! Prices are going crazy on JM stamped Marlins but that is beyond insane. Has to be something unique other than condition. Or someone with too much extra cash wanted one really bad.

That entire auction was shady there wasn't even feedback left from the buyer or seller, you'd think if someone paid over 10K for the run of the mill 336 the seller would leave feedback.
