Nice choice! Unfortunately, unless you reload, short low-pressure shells are currently almost non-existent. Most will be reluctant to share what they may have. Hopefully things will improve at some point. How about some details on you new Fox? Barrel length, chokes, ejectors or extractors, any pics you'd like to share?

If you reload, consider loading some low pressure 16 gauge loads in 2-3/4 inch shells. Unless you have very short forcing cones, the slightly longer (actually, probably a max of 1/8 inches, as older 16s were often chambered for 2-9/16 inch shells and all of the "2-3/4" shells I've measured run 2-11/16 inch or shorter), shouldn't present an issue as long as you keep the pressure down below 8500 psi. I do this with my Simson sxs and I've had no issues at all. The data listed at https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbt...356/16-gauge-reloading-data#Post14293356 will get you started, although you'll have to find the BP wads. Older reloading manuals also have lower pressure data using Remington and Winchester wads (or their CB equivalents). Remember that 1150-1200 fps was the standard velocity for game loads for decades and it killed birds just as dead as the firecracker loads people seem to prefer today while being much gentler to older guns.

It’s a 26 inch Sterlingworth built in 1929 and choked modified and improved cylinder. Not a collector piece but will make a good solid shooter that handles like a dream. Now if I could only shoot it!
I’m not a reloader so I’ll still cling to hope that a “ammo angel” will come through!

Never hurts to dream but it does sting a bit when they don't come true.

I had mine, a high grade Simson. I tried to get used to it and shot up ammo and tossed clays, but I never could hit a standing bull in the azz with it and sold it. I loved the gun, and so did the chukar, pheasants, quail, and doves that survived.

I couldn't afford it when I got it, and I was almost happy for a reason to recoup my money.

I'd love to have a nice condition Sterlingworth or a Parker, but they're out of reach. I have the ammo for any 16ga, though, for all the good my declining wingshooting prowess does. The dogs just look back at me in disgust.

I do have a 16ga long forcing cone reamer that works wonders for short chambers without gouging away a lot of meat. Patterns get better, and recoil gets less. It's a good compromise for older guns with thinner chamber walls.

What is it with ammo. I used to order rst by th e case 2.5 16 gauge. That's why I went to a merkel. It consumes hot loads like a fat kid on a donut. Not going to abuse my parker and fox a grade till the 2.5 ammo market comes back
