Somehow, my life would be happier if I had one of these. If anyone runs across one in their travels, please drop me a line. I'm primed to buy one with a nice piece of figured wood. I'll gladly send ya a finder's fee.

A nice piece of wood in a factory #1 that's almost laughable. I have a custom #1 in 300 H&H and it's a great rifle in a great caliber. A friend has one of the Boddington editions and it shoots well but looks like it was stocked from a used telephone pole.

You are right! When I say figured, I do have reasonable expectations- just am not real interested in having one with the telephone pole stock. I've seen pictures of yours in my scouring. It is absolutely fantastic!

My Boddington Kudu is one of the few rifles I would never sell (again).

I've taken 20 animals with it (mostly in South Africa) and I sold it to a great friend and he took it over, as well.

Then I traded back into the rifle after I realized how stupid I was to ever let it go.

Good luck. You'll find what you are looking for!

Just have to be patient, which is sometimes not my strong point

Patience is not one of my virtues. Buy the rifle then pick out a nice blank and have it restocked. It becomes habit forming however.

There's one for sale on the Guns International website, but the stock is as plain as a picked chicken, and the barrel has been Magna-Ported (a.k.a. ruined). I bought mine from a Montana dealer that had had it for a couple of years, and the caliber hasn't been cataloged recently. Good luck with your search. I love the caliber, and have several bolt guns in .300 H&H--all with 25-inch or longer barrels.

I agree with ya! That stock is about the most lackluster piece of walnut that I’ve ever seen on a No. 1. I have a pre-64 70 in.300 H&H. It is a great caliber!

Still looking... But, in the interim, I found this lovely consolation prize to match the 4 boxes of .25-06 ammo I have had in my stash for a few years... https://www.gunsinternational.com/g...o-1-25-06-remington.cfm?gun_id=101951066

I had a nice one but sold it a few months ago. It was special edition (Cabelas I think) with Circasian walnut and deep bluing. Good luck with your search.

I see these pop up on a fairly regular basis on GunBroker if you're patient. Because it's an uncommon but classic caliber, they often are not available for super cheap. They had one in November that never passed the reserve price so I don't know how much the seller actually wanted for it. They had one sell with a Zeiss scope for $1599 in October:

If you run the following search on a regular basis, you might stumble across one. The item that is currently listed the seller appears to be really proud of since the starting price is $2,700:

Ruger #1 300 H&H on GunBroker

Rock Island Auction sold two in 2020. The last one they sold was a couple of months ago in October of 2022:

My life would be happier if I had one too but it would need to be in an equally rare left-handed Mauser.

Actually, I'd be happy to buy ya a beer, but I scored one of the Cabelas rifles with a Redfield scope on it in dead mint shape for $1349. I posted a pic of it a couple posts above. It actually has pretty good wood! Not breathtaking, but pretty darn nice. I'm going to check the one out in your link now.... You know how that whole curiosity thing goes...

I was also fortunate to find some ammo with Dinny's help!

That one has enough going on that I could like it. Hopefully someone on here can snag it at a reasonable price.

A very nice Lipsey's edition with color cased action is sitting in the rack at the local Cabela's in my neck of the woods...

I was chomping at the bit to buy one of those earlier in the year. I asked the female associate at Cabelas to take a good long look at it for me before doing the purchase (was in one of the western states), and thankfully she spotted a crack in the grip area before I went through all of the gyrations. They sent it back to Ruger for a restock, and it came back to them with absolutely dismal straight grained wood. The original stock was pretty fantastic, regrettably.
