I’ve been looking for a low mileage 2nd generation Toyota Tacoma 4x4. I’ve had a 2019 for a couple years and I really don’t like it. I always loved the 2nd generation Tacoma’s with the 4.0 six cylinder.
I just found a plain Jane 2009 Tacoma Access Cab 4x4 with the 4.0l and auto transmission. Odometer reads 37,000 miles. Body and interior look new. Slight surface rust on the underside. It’s for sale at a reputable Toyota dealer. Asking just north of $20k.
Deal or no deal?

Access cab is definitely my preference. I use my bed for stuff and don’t need or want a 4 door. Love my 2012 Tacoma and will keep it until it rusts away.

If the undercarriage rust isn't serious, in today's market I would call that a pretty good deal. If you haven't yet, spend some time on the tacomaworld website...a whole lotta info there.
I have a 2010 taco DCLB and have been very happy with it.

My ‘09 Tacoma 2.6L just rolled past 288,000 miles. She’s a champ for sure.

Probably a decent deal these days. Access cab would be the only drawback for me. I've got an 09 4 door SR5 4wd. Haven't looked but its right around 290k on the odometer. Never had a bit of trouble, actually never seen the check engine light other than startup. Used Toyota's hold a high resale value and in today's market anything goes. With the miles you mention its not even broke in. Just check the frame or see that the dealer has . It fell into the frame replacement years but its too far out now if its bad.

I finally found what I was looking for. It’s a 2014 TRD Off Road double cab with the shorter bed. Only 25,000 miles on it. I’m still on the fence about the short bed, but other than that it looks great.

I have an 07 4x4 crew cab I bought new. It has 229,000 miles right now. Other than normal stuff I replaced the alternator at 180,000 miles. I had a U-Joint go bad at 170,000, but Toyota reimbursed me for the cost of the repair with an apology and a statement they would replace any of the others at no charge up to 200,000 miles. It still drives and runs like new.

If you need the cab space don't worry about it. I've never found anything I couldn't put in the 5' bed where 6' would have helped. I can haul 12' lumber or kayaks in my 5' bed. You can't make anything longer work in anything less than a full size truck with an 8' bed. The Access Cab trucks with 6' beds are fine if you don't need the space in the cab. They make some crew cab's with a 6' bed. But those are the same length and wheelbase as a 1/2 ton truck. I'd just buy a 1/2 ton if I wanted that.

You ain't gonna put much weight or volume in the bed or any Tacoma. Typical payload on those is going to be 1000-1200 lbs. The 1st thing I bought after moving from a 1/2 ton to a Tacoma was a 10'X6' utility trailer. I can haul more in that trailer than I could put in an 8' bed of a 3/4 ton truck. And it is easier to load/unload plus I don't beat up the bed with firewood etc.

Most people don't really want the truth.

They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.

That's a big deal to me, gotta have 6' bed on my truck, but we have a 2009 4x4 with the 4 liter and automatic for the wife. It has the for doors and short bed. I hate it myself, but it's troublefree minus one wheel bearing in 150,000 miles. Transmission is always searching for a gear it seems.

Is it maroon color?

That seems to be the color of Gen1s that I see still on the road.
