Don Martin: In the heart of Liberal-owned Toronto, an unlikely Conservative rock star takes the stage
Campaign crowds can sometimes be fake news.
Organizers can falsify the frenzy by booking a room they know is too small and fill it to capacity to create the impression of a delirious crush of support.
Or you can pick a geographical location where your candidate’s support is deepest to showcase a disproportionately large audience as a typical rally.
But this Pierre Poilievre overflowing-audience phenomenon has me stumped, particularly after Tuesday night.
So what’s the cheerleading attraction?
Poilievre is a face nine Canadians out of ten still couldn’t pick out of a two-person lineup.
He is my MP and shows up at church basement dinners, community fairs and Remembrance Day services to a subdued nod of recognition from the locals.
Yet he struts into a 700-person filled-to-capacity hall with a few hundred more in the adjacent overflow room, a crowd one Conservative begrudgingly told me even Stephen Harper could not have attracted while serving as prime minister, and Poilievre is a rock star standing on Liberal bedrock.
For what it’s worth, with apologies to Buffalo Springfield, there’s something happenin’ here, but what it is ain’t exactly clear.
Thar sounds interesting, my cousin in Calgary said similar things. A Rock star? This conjures up memories of long haired, dope smoking( I suspect), undisciplined , incoherent P.M..... Justin .( I know) My cousin spoke of Pierre as thoughtful and considerate, a good communicator. She ordinarily does not offer even faint praise about these types of things. I am a card carrying Conservative and have not heard him speak recently. We have no t.v. and I prefer selectively choosing my sources of info. So it filters in much slower. Let us pray that we have the right man for the right reasons. God Bless you all
I have never seen him in person either, but his videos come across as someone who has a plan. I think the thing to remember is that this is a leadership campaign, so all the candidates are going to put their best foot forward. I can tell you that he has been sending out regular emails. He isn't my MP, but I am on his mailing list. I don't know how many party members are on this board, but I would encourage everyone to sign up.
Poilievre sends out weekly emails to subscribers. This is what came in this morning. I can say that annual savings will be higher than 1 billion. And Canadians will recover some cash by liquidating most of the office space, real estate and equipment that is not part of the annual budget.
I will defund the CBC

The CBC is supposed to represent all Canadians. But does it represent you?
No.
The CBC has become the billion-dollar propaganda arm of the Trudeau Liberal government.
It's a cheerleader for everything Trudeau does and attacks anyone who disagrees with him.
It's spending your money to make you feel bad about your principles and beliefs.
I will end this. I will defund the CBC. Saving $1 billion per year.
673; Good evening to you my friend, I hope you all got some of the rain we've received today and you're all well.
Thanks for the link, it was good to see he's not pulling any punches with Charest.
I caught this the other day on my feed too, so he's still on the side of legal firearms owners.
So far I've got to say that it's my impression Mr. Poilievre is either extremely good at saying the right things or he is hoping to make some positive change.
That was pretty much Pierre in a nutshell in that debate, he is very consistent over the years in his attitude and message, and a lot of fun to watch. What he did to Charest was needed, and fair and square, Charest does not belong there, all I can say is, nicely done.
I have a problem with Charest. He was a Conservative, but wanted to be premier of Quebec, so he became a Liberal and had the premier’s job for nine years. Now he wants to be Conservative leader. Is he a Conservative or a Liberal? Or does he simply want a big income and a great pension?
Here is Charest, blaming harper for Huawei's presence in Canada, then attempts a victory lap for freeing the 2 Michaels...and someone thinks Charest would make a good PM?....The only one who thinks Charest is the man for PM is China. https://spencerfernando.com/2022/05...id-by-communist-china-controlled-huawei/
Yes. Unfortunately, he suffered the same fate that befell a number of our politicians. He got voted out. Voters wanted change.
For those of us old enough to remember Trudeau mania, we saw a little of that with Justin in 2016, but it fizzled. Making deals with the NDP to stay in power is pretty cheesy.
It reaffirms the expression that politics makes strange bedfellows.
673; Morning my friend, I hope the sun's out up north and you're all well.
Thanks for putting up this last video, I appreciate it.
There is no doubt in my mind that Pierre is facing tremendous and very powerful opposition on a bunch of fronts.
If he wins the leadership, much less becomes PM it'll be a minor miracle in my opinion.
That said though sir, that's exactly what I working towards...
We'll see.
All the best and God bless.

I am day 6 recovering from the Wuhan, a couple of pretty bad days, I have been sicker, I am going to mow the lawn today, otherwise, great lol. I get letters everyday from other potential leaders like Charest poking holes in Petey, they are desperate to keep Pete down. I just don't know if Pete can reverse the damage Trudeau is going to do to us in the next 2 years.
