It wasn’t that much if I remember right it was around $100 more that was one of the first anTi actions Alamo received.

huntsman, I never really thought about it when I mounted that scope. Would they benefit from being out further? I can’t go any further in the back but I could gain a couple slots up front.

I’ll ask them to do that. More than half pound weight saving according to defiance.

I took the opportunity to visit Alamo Precision Rifles today. I was pretty impressed with their operation and personnel. I would feel very comfortable having them build me a LH rifle.

I envy you, that would be the best way to see what fits you and be able to talk to the guys face to face who are going to build it.

The other great choice is the Tikka T3x. The clip center feed system is ideal for 284. As you know there is a good selection of premium brass available due to popularity in F Class rifles.

They recommend I go with the long action if I decide on the .284 Win

I had a conversation with Jimmy & Vic about building a SAUM. They both recommended a long acton to prevent any potential feeding issues.

Jimmy was the guy I spoke to on the phone, very helpful. He said basically the intermediate length actions are a fairly new thing and to make it work the way most people want it ends up costing more money and headache than it’s worth.

he mentioned the intermediate length but I'm not sure its available in a LH config. I may likely push back the SAUM project for a while and look at something different.

Not a Maverick but a 28 Nosler built to my wants using the APR action (TL technologies makes it), bartlein sendero, McMillan Game hunter, APA dbm and trigger tech. This rifle is as accurate as any I have ever seen and the fit and finish was perfect.

Not sure I'm buying his explanation as the Defiance XM actions were designed for the 284 Win length cartridge as well as the short mags, I have a 6.5 Gap built with the xm length that works perfect!

Easily remedied with a Wyatt’s box in a standard SA. Or build it on a M70 WSM action.

The problem with defiance XM action is you basically have to buy their bottom metal setup for it also and they charge quite a bit for it.

The M70 WSM action was my initial plan and I still may go that way but it won't be with Alamo. I don't think they work with M70 actions at this time.

Strongly recommend Alamo-- very knowledgable shop with hunters and competitive shooters working throughout- over the years they've built me a number of rifles on Rem 700 and Defiance actions... 22-250ai, 6cm, 257wby, 7saum, 300norma, 338rum and I'm probably forgetting one somewhere-- every single rifle shot incredibly well both with factory ammo and with handloads. Most impressive to me was the 338rum with factory Barnes LRX got a 100yd zero (5 shots) and then immediately stepped it out with the next 3 shots to 400, 600, 800yds-- center punching 1 MOA plates.

To my knowledge they have and were working on CRF actions-- they had a Defiance CRF (375H&H) and may rebarrel a Kimber for me if I go that route.

They won't steer you wrong on action lengths as long as you are honest with what you want the rifle to do. I wanted my 7saum as light as possible-- it is 7lbs 1.6oz with a scope-- but I had to go with a short action anTi to save weight-- which is fine because my bullets of choice were 162ELDM and 169HH.
