Minnesota's Ruffed grouse season open today. The numbers are suppose to be down. Even after getting 4 of a 5 daily limit. I agree! I got into 2 family groups of about 4 to 6 birds each. Had a change at 5 but only got 4.These I would never had seen or heard if not for my dog. BUT after 5 hours of walking not another bird got up. It is hard to compare this year to last because after having lost my 6 year old dog to cancer I had to hunt over a 7 month old pup. This year it is different because he is a year older.<BR>I felt the grouse numbers were good going into the winter. I don't what happen because the spring drumming numbers were down. Then a wet spring! <BR>Grouse don't spend much time on the ground, so you really have to be lucky .
