A number of local Fish & Game associations have banded together and are putting on pheasant shoots for teenagers. The birds are all pen raised and about 50 are released each Saturday and Sunday in a field dedicated to this program. The program started Sept. 15th and will end near the end of November. At last count about 50 kids will participate. They are using single shot 20 ga shotguns (they have all taken hunter ed.). Four kids go out in 2 groups on both sides of a corn belt which is about 50 feet wide. Each group has a shooting coach to emphasize proper safety and shooting techniques. A handler and dog go down the corn flushing the birds (there's also 2 turkeys released each day.) I've been out twice with my YLF. So far it's been all boys but there are a few girls also on the list. It's been a great experience for all concerned and the boys have really been pumped.
