We got a nice .7" rain last night, and we may get some more.

Hot and dry. Got 1.5 inches pretty fast a few days ago. It came too fast.
Pastures are greening, but we sure need a followup rain.

Nice here. Just getting dry enough for fieldwork. Supposed to rain all next week. Corn planters are rolling, and we're a lot later than normal in planting corn.

My neighbor rents my crop land, and he's been running day and night putting corn in the ground. Running two planters, a 16 row Kinze and an 8 row JD. They're planting corn here this morning. We're just now drying out, and rain is forecast for the upcoming week, so they need to get as much planted as possible. We're about 7-8 inches over normal for rainfall so far this year.

No rain or any moisture to speak of for quite a while now. Was warmer for a few days of 70+, now cooled back down to low 60's. Still have frost every night

We've been getting rains every week for the last month or longer. Finally dried out enough that I planted the garden last Thursday. Got an inch of rain on it last night.

Not planting anything yet but the lower elevations have the potatoes and onions in.
Up here on the plateau I’ll put mine in by the end of next week, need to till up some new ground first.

There is plenty of time to plant corn. Richard, the optimal time for planting corn here is around April 15. I've planted it earlier, and planted it later, as a matter of fact much later, in June.

It won't quit raining long enough to get much field work done around here. Everytime it starts to dry out we get another big downpour rolls through that turns everything to slop again. We got one Saturday afternoon that dropped around an inch in half an hour.
Hardly any fields locally are even turned over yet, let alone planted.

From the looks of the forecasts we may not get much of anything done in the field till next week.
I need to get about 55 acres of corn in still.

Looks like rain until the weekend. But we need the moisture and I think a burn ban is still in effect.
Won't be any farming done this week. But I don't think you will hear many complain, dry as it has been.

79* and sunny right now.
We had frost Saturday morning and 32* Friday morning. It's a pretty slow warm up this year.

Pouring rain this morning, surprise, surprise. Forecast is clear tomorrow, then more rain Wednesday-Saturday. We just can't seem to catch more than 1 or 2 days in a row without rain this spring.

Wabi, I'm no big time farmer, but I got a couple of questions..... You stated that there was plenty of time to plant corn. Around here, N. La., the corn is planted where it's been dry enough. But if it floods out, which it does every few years, they always go back with beans, never corn. My question(s).... 1. how late can you plant corn, 2. could waiting for the fields to dry enough to plow and plant be the reason they go back with beans, because by that time it is too late to plant corn?

Randy, I have heard it said, here in Arkansas that there is a date where the yield drops off drastically. I do not know what that date is, but I can find out. Most farmers here plant corn before rice. Before corn became big, rice was the first thing planted by most big farmers. Milo sometimes, but milo has dropped out of favor here. Crops are very late here because of wet weather. Rained during the night, last night. My first ripe tomato ever was on June 5th, and I will be lucky to get them set out by June this year. miles
Look out for number 1, don't step in number 2.

Miles, for whatever reason, everything is late this year. Mayhaws are usually ready the 2nd to 3rd week of April, no later than the 4th week. At a friends house yesterday and his will be ready by the end of this week..... mine will be ready sometime next week. We didn't have an unusually late freeze or frost that I remember, but the cool nights did seem to stay longer that usual. Maybe that's the reason.
I had a Uncle that farmed for a living and he said the planting time for cotton had changed at least 6 weeks to 2 months, from when he was a young man. His father grew cotton, so my uncle had been around farming all his life. Plant later now than they use to. The weather was the difference.

Almost 90 degrees 2 weeks ago today. Snow 3 days later. 5" of rain in the past week. 37 degrees last night. 80's by Thursday..............
Just typical weather here. Our weather is like they ran outta meds at the schizophrenia ward.

Drove up close to Abilene TX to deliver my cousin a new tractor he'd bought from my tractor dealer down here. That was one of the more depressing drives I've ever made. Hundreds of miles of drought stricken country where they'd not even gotten a spring green up this year. Check out the grass in the background. Looked like that for hundreds of miles...

April sucked here, windy almost eveyday, not much rain. May sucks so far, rain (good), wind (bad). Temps 30s to 70s, nothing holds steady for more than a day. Killing my p-dogging times with winds.

Looks like it turned the corner here. It finally quit raining Saturday morning, and it isn't supposed to rain again until this weekend. The temp shot up a lot, too. We've been mostly 30s-50s for the past month, and it's supposed to tickle 90 a few days this week.

The snow stuck overnight. Low of 24 tonight. It was warmer in March than it has been the last two weeks. It’ll probably go straight from here to the 90’s.....

Saw a lot of guys out in the field yesterday. There's still some low ponding, but flatter ground has dried out. Supposed to be breezy and near 90° today, it topped out at 84 yesterday afternoon.

Cut wheat down yesterday, rolled and wrapped today. Have some orchardgrass cut down, but aren't going to wrap it. It probably won't bale until Thursday. Hot today, close to 90.

Hopefully he won't have the wind out there. It gets nasty out on the plains. About 3" on the ground at present. It is suppose to snow until about 5 PM tomorrow.

Woke up to 14"of the white stuff.Measured with a yard stick in 3 different areas.Thank God no wind. Roads were warm enough that all but about 5" melted a s it came down. I took the tractor up to the paved road and it was either plowed or slushy. I could see pavement

Very nice slow rain yesterday evening and into the overnight. I had 9/10 in the gauge this morning, and it was really needed. According to the forecast, we're going to get more over the next 4 or 5 days. I really need to cut some more hay, should have done it last week. Kicking myself in the butt for believing the weatherman instead of trusting my gut. We had excellent haying weather, despite the rain that was predicted.

Come a young flood last night but so far it's hot and clear as a bell this morning. Bush hogged yesterday and got a few hours more left to do today .

Got about 1.25" between midnight and daylight this morning. Cloudy and cool all day, might have got to 70*. Suppose to be a chance of rain for most of this week, with possible bad weather moving in Wed.

It's 8:15 pm and getting breezy and hear thunder and rain is starting to come down. Not going to complain we need it been dry down here.

We got a bit over an inch yesterday, might get the same today.
It’s coming down slow and will all soak in.
It was needed. I finished the beans on Saturday and stuck a bunch of them in dry dirt.

Pretty much like that here Scott, four tenths, to say it's welcome is an under statment.

Hot and sunny the last few days. We've been into the low 90s every afternoon since Saturday. It's supposed to cool down starting tomorrow with a chance of some rain later in the week.
