Is this Taylor about the equal of the 416 Ruger? Probably not much difference.

But you can run it at 2250 easy which should prove more.than adequate with a good 400 grain bullet on big game.

62 gr of H4895 with a 400 grainer gets 2150 or a bit more. Kicks like a .375 and duplicates the .404 or .450/500.

As the owner of one myself, I'd say that's a great idea! However, your biggest challenge will be finding dies since they're not made by any of the big makers these days. I was fortunate to find old sets from Lee and RCBS. CH4D makes them, but I've seen mentioned on here they're 2-3 years out on orders of anything not in stock.

Now, I’m thinking my tanger needs a new barrel. I sold all my 416 stuff when I sold my Ruger 416 Rigby. But I bet I can find what I’d need.
I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally

PA,
thankfully my gun came with dies, brass, bullets and some ammo!
Bugger, Ragged Hole Barrels may still have some 416 barrels on clearance. I ordered one myself since I was already ordering a barrel from them. Might do another 416T in a short barrel/micky stock for a good all weather compact thumper, and, I've got components!

I came into some 300 grain Hawk bullets. Any one have some reduced loads for deer? I'll give Johnly1923's loads a try with the 300 grainer.

It’s practice for the bigger game. Not nuts at all. I shot full power loads with 400 grain Swift A Frames in preparation for a trip to Africa in 05. Those days are behind me and therefore a reduced load will make a dandy deer rifle out of this.

That looks a bit like Frank Wells' work. Who is the maker? Unless I missed it I have not seen that yet in this thread. It's lovely. Frank built a 7mm Mag for me back in the early 90's and he was building Taylors at the time.
Cheers, Rex
