Anyone shooting a Marlin LC Smith?

Trying to figure out if I can regularly shoot modern factory stuff through one.

If it is tight and locks up solid….you can shoot whatever would be standard loads when it was made. And 2 3/4 dram loads were common when it was original. Todays 2 3/4 dram loads are little different. If it locks up tight, then the condition of the wood, especially the heading up to the receiver is something that should be evaluated. An easy fix if it has softened from oil or has developed cracks.

If the lock up is weak, then it would be no different than one which needed work today.

Addition: After all this time, the insides should also be cleaned and lubed if it hasn’t been done in years.

Just noticed..."Marlin" LC's are not all that old as far a using modern steel.

I found a couple Elsie's from the late 40's that are in nice shape, and am hoping to shoot them often.

FYI: Marlin made the LC Smith 3 different times:
-late 1940’s Marlin bought the LC Smith Fulton, NY factory & assembled existing parts until the building collapsed into the old canal bed.
-1968 Marlin tried reviving the LC Smith using the original specs. Sales did not meet expectations.
-2005 Marlin used the “LC Smith” in name only to make a much cheaper designed SxS & O/U. Again, production did not last very long.
